For a destination run in Shanghai, we recommend a day trip to Sheshan National Forest Park. This popular visitor destination is located in the Songjiang District, about 30 km west of downtown. There are numerous paved & unpaved roads and paths, with features including a bamboo forest, hills, a lake, and more! It’s also the location of the Church of Our Lady of Sheshan, which is the largest church in Southeast Asia.

The park is divided into three areas: Sheshan Park East (use the Meridien Hotel as your anchor); Shaghai Yuehu Sculpture Park, which is near Yue Hu Lake; and Sheshan Park West, which is more rugged and features numerous hills. A few favorite running options include:

Yue Hu Lake. A ~2.5 km perimeter road/path around the lake, with some water views and several scenic spots.

Trails Through the Park. There are numerous paths and trails through the park. It’s ~2.5 km lengthwise. There are lovely trees, flowers, and other natural features.

Huanshan Road. A good option for a longer, uninterrupted road run. Also popular with cyclists. It runs along the south side of the park, west of Waiqinsong Hwy, for 2 km.

Hills: For those who want hills, there are  ~100m high East Sheshan Mountain and West Sheshan Mountain.
