Features:
This is a lovely loop with great waterfront views and lots of variety in Sydney’s northeast suburb of Balmoral. We’ve put together a 5-mile route that includes Georges Head, Middle Head, and then a cruise along Balmoral Beach.
We start on the paved path at Ripples Chowder Bay, near Georges Head. Head east on the path and then along Chowder Bay Rd., which has pretty trees and occasional ocean views. Here, you’re above the water. At the 2 km mark, turn RIGHT on Middle Head Rd., for a jaunt down to Middle Head (side trip option: trail down to Cobblers Beach). You’ll then have to come back south on Middle Head Rd., turning inland on a path leading to Balmoral Park. Head down to the Esplanade, for a scenic 1 km jaunt along Balmoral Beach. Return on the dirt trail through Balmoral Park, to George’s Lookout. This last 1 km is hilly!
Add-Ons: For a lovely trail run, it’s 3 km from the start of our run to Bradley’s Head Lighthouse, in Sydney Harbour National Park.
- 8 km (5 miles) loop
- 153m (504 feet)
- Ripples Chowder Bay, near Georges Head.
- Car helpful, but bus access possible to Balmoral Beach
