Waverly Cliff Walk, Gap Bluff, South Head

Just north of Bondi Beach, in the Watson’s Bay area, is another opportunity for a gorgeous coastal run. A series of mainly paved, clifftop trails through several parks & reserves can be combined for a run of up to 7.5 km between the Raleigh Reserve and Hornby Lighthouse on South Head. There are fantastic views out to the Tasman Sea, and, from South Head, of Sydney Harbour. Note: hilly and numerous stairs!

Start at the Raleigh Reserve at Raleigh St. Follow the trail through Raleigh Reserve, and then a brief road section (LEFT on Blake St., RIGHT on Military Rd.). Continue through Dudley Preserve, and then take the Waverly Cliffwalk trail through Eastern Reserve. North of there, after a brief road section, join the Diamond Bay Cliffwalk through Diamond Bay Reserve & Christison Park, passing Macquarie Lighthouse into Lighthouse Reserve. The next 1.5 km is a gorgeous section along the Gap Bluff Walknig Trail through Gap Park.

You could end here, or continue for 0.7 km on a road to the S Head Heritage Trail, a beautiful 0.7 km clifftop path out to Hornby Lighthouse, with sweeping views of North Harbour & Sydney Harbour.

Add-On: Around the other side of South Head, combine with our Hermitage Foreshore route, which is 7 km between the Hornby Lighthouse in Watsons Bay and Vaucluse. Or, 1.5 km south, is the famous Bondi to Coogee trail. Combine these two routes for an epic coastal run of up 14 km one-way!
