Brisbane Coastal: Shorncliffe to Brighton

Wikimedia Commons

Shorncliffe is a lovely coastal suburb of Brisbane, located 20 km northeast of the city on Moreton Bay. There’s a lovely path along the water from Moora Park north for 5.5 km to the Ted Smout Memorial Bridge in Brighton, with great water views. The Arthur Davis Park is also home to the Sandgate Parkrun, a free group 5k held every Saturday morning.

From the Moora Park in Shorncliffe, starting near the Shorncliffe Pier, head north on the ‘Lovers Walk’ path. The tree-lined esplanade will take you north, through the most scenic part of the route, past Arthur Davis Park and the Sandgate Swimming Pool at the 2 km (1.2 miles) point. The views of Moreton Bay and the Coral Sea make this route a must-do when in the area. Continue following the path north until you reach Decker Park, just before the Ted Smout Memorial Bridge.

Add-Ons:  Ted Smout Memorial Bridge is a 2.7 km (1.7 miles) bridge that does have pedestrian access if you feel like crossing the Bay on foot. From Decker Park, in addition to running across the bridge, you can join Deagon Deviation Bikeway which follows the Deagon Deviation road inland.

Essentials
  • 11 km (6.8 miles) out and back, but can turn around at any point
  • Flat
  • Moora Park in Shorncliffe
  • Car is the best option, but there is a train station in Shorncliffe
