Lake Texcoco Ecological Park is a new and wonderful addition to the running scene in Mexico City. This park, opened in 2024, is a major ecological restoration project, taking place in a wetlands area of northeast Mexico City. It’s now one of the largest urban parks in the world. About 12,000 of the park’s 35,000 acres is open to the public. The park’s terrain is fairly open & exposed, and there are large areas of wetlands. It’s a major birding area as well.
There are several km of trails for walking, hiking, & cycling, but note that some of the infrastructure is still under development. One good running option is the road/path around Nabor Carillo Lake (~11 km full route). As of May 2025, there is not a well-developed trail map available in digital form. We recommend going to the Visitor Center and obtaining more information about the best trails for running. Best access is off the the 136D Highway.
NOTE: Some of the park’s infrastructure is still under development, with new phases still to be opened.
