Lake Union is located 2–3 miles from downtown, and close to the Capitol Hill area. The loop around this lake is almost a perfect 10K (6.2 miles) and thus the Lake Union 10K race is held here annually. The city of Seattle is divided by this heart shaped lake and has stunning views of not only the city skyline, but additionally the Olympic Mountains (to the west) and Mount Rainer (to the southeast).
The Queen Anne neighborhood is just to the west and the University of Washington is to the east.
