Scenic coastal running just north of Fort Bragg. The highlight of the park is the 5 mile Mackerricher Coastal Trail, an old road that follows the coastline from Glass Beach to Inglenook. Combine w/Noyo Headlands Trail for more gorgeous coastal bluff running.
Ohori is Fukuoka’s signature park, located in the central part of the city and easily accessible from the Ohori subway station. We’ve mapped a ~5k route that combines Ohori and Nishi parks. There's also a running track in adjacent Maizuru Park.
Shika Island and the peninsula that connects it to the rest of Fukuoka boast some of the best coastal views around. The best running there is in Uminakamichi Seaside Park, where one can put together ~10 km on pleasant, scenic paths.
Momochi Seaside Park features some of the top sights in Fukuoka, including the Fukuoka Tower and splendid seaside paths. We’ve mapped a 5 mile loop, with an optional extension around Nishi Park.
Island City Park and Kashiihamakita Park also have great waterfront running and paths around lovely gardens. Connect them for a 7.5 km (~5 mile) loop that traverses the incredible Aitaka Bridge. For longer, combine with Uminonakamichi Seaside Park.
The paved paths along the Muromi Rivera are among the best long-distance options for running in Fukoka. The along both sides of the waterway go for 8.5 km from Atago Beach Park to Miyakochikawahara Park.
The paths along La Scarpe river are the go-to running spot in Arras. Scenic running, with nice water views. A highlight is the paths in Parc Jean-Pierre Deleury. We’ve mapped an out and back route of up to 13 km (8 miles).

There are many lovely paths surrounding the Citadelle, where runners can wind through field and forest. We’ve mapped a 5k circuit, but there’s plenty to explore.
A classic rural route through farmland and countryside north of Arras, mostly off-road. The Parc Grandes Prairies can be a route of its own. The Sentier du Mont Saint Vaast follows a series of dirt paths and pretty country roads for a 12.5 km loop.
Run some of the scenic paths of residential Dainville. The Chem du Warluquet is particularly nice, combined with the local park trails.
Explore the banks of Mikazuki Lake on this 4 mile out and back along a paved, car-free park path. Connections to a number of nearby trails.
The best trail running options in Fukuoka, including recreation areas at Mt. Imori, Mt. Wakasugi, Mt. Korasan, and Mt. Abura.
The signature run on Mississippi’s Gulf Coast. A wide sidewalk runs alongside Beach Boulevard for more than 40 miles between Ocean Springs and Bay St. Louis. Highlights are the water views, the Biloxi Bay Bridge and the Bay St. Louis Bridge.
More lovely waterfront running just across the bay from Biloxi. The path along Front Beach Drive reaches ~3 miles out and back.
The best run in Biloxi is off Popps Ferry Rd., including Popps Ferry Causeway Park and Popps Ferry Bridge. Some great water views. For a longer run, take tree-lined Atkinson Rd. east to Hiller Park.
A nice destination trail run about 30 minutes from Biloxi. This old railroad grade reaches 12.5 miles through the wildflower-speckled De Soto National Forest. Lots of bridges & boardwalks through wetland areas.
The most popular running route in Columbia. Starts from Riverfront Park and run north, or cross into West Columbia and run south. Up to 8 miles one-way.
A large wooded area bordering the Broad River in northwest Columbia. The 4.4-mile Firebreak Trail is the most runnable trail in the park.
Saluda Shoals Park has 10 miles of runnable trails along the Saluda River in northwestern Columbia, including the paved 2.25 mile Greenway Trail.
Run across the top of the Dreher Shoals Dam. There is a 1.7 mile paved path connecting Lake Murray Public Park to the North Recreation area, featuring great water views.
Sesquicentennial State Park, aka “Sesqui,” is another nice running option in northeast Columbia. The 3.5-mile loop trail is the best choice for running, but there are lots of connecting trails.
Columbia has no shortage of nice streets, sidewalks, and residential areas for running. The Shandon neighborhood is closest to downtown. We also love running in Lake Katherine, Lake Carolina, and Wildewood.
On the northern outskirts of Columbia, the Peak to Prosperity Passage is an awesome off-road option. 11 miles of dirt doubletrack weave through mainly wooded terrain from Alston to Eptings Pond. Includes 14 wooden trestles, including the 1,100 foot Broad River trestle bridge.
Telluride is a town with more ski trails than streets, but that doesn’t mean road runners have to miss out on the fun. We’ve mapped a 3.8 mile tour of downtown.
The Telluride Bike Path is the best long off-road route in Telluride. It’s up to 10 km out and back, or runners can hop on the Valley Floor Trail for a mixed-surface loop.
Run the San Miguel River Trail along the water. It’s easily accessed from downtown, 2.4 miles one way, and there are lots of add-on options.
Bear Creek is one of Telluride’s most popular trails for its views of Bear Creek Falls. It’s ~4.5 miles out and back on a wide, gradually ascending trail. 1,100 gain over 2.2 miles.
The Galloping Goose trail follows an old railroad line from Mountain Village to Illium. It’s possible to continue on from here, but most runners do a 10 km out and back.
A favorite trail departing from Mountain Village to the Station St. Sophia Gondola terminal, crossing ski runs with great views to the west while traversing through aspen and spruce-dominated drainages. 3.5 miles. 1,127 foot gain
The Telluride Trail is the best way up the mountain from the village of Telluride. It’s 1.8 miles up, and it’s possible to return via the gondola.
Check out historic downtown Taos on this tour through the plaza and Kit Carson Park. It’s a loop of only 1.5 miles, but it’s pleasant enough for a quick tour or some laps.
Take a scenic route to visit Taos Pueblo (a UNESCO World Heritage site just north of Taos) on this ~4 mile out and back. Great views of the surrounding mountains! Note: road to Pueblo might only be open to pedestrians during visiting hours.
Wonderful trail running opportunities in this National Monument featuring wide open plains dotted by volcanic cones, and cut by steep canyons with rivers tucked away in their depths. We've included some top recommendations and links to trail maps.

Anyone staying near or visiting Angel Fire will benefit from the Angel Fire Greenbelt trails that circle the town. We’ve mapped an easy 3.5 mile loop. There are options for more challenging trail running in the area.

San Juan Island is the gateway to the San Juans, and the most popular island to visit. There are plenty of running options here, from the trails of the National Historic Park to the quiet roads emanating from Friday Harbor.
Orcas Island is the second largest San Juan island, and a popular choice among outdoor recreation enthusiasts. It’s a trail runner’s dream, with a gorgeous array of paths at Moran State Park and Turtleback Mountain Preserve.
Lopez Island is the third largest of the San Juan Islands, and there are some great running options of the lightly trafficked roads. Bayshore Road and the area of Spencer Spit State Park are favorites.
The loop around Lake Suwa is a worth-it destination run. A beautiful gravel path loops around the lake for 16 km, through cherry blossoms and parkland, with views of the water and surrounding mountains. It's 90 km south of Nagano, and a quick 1-hour train ride.
Nagano hosted the 1998 Winter Olympics. Get into the Olympics spirit with this 3.5 km route around the grounds of the Minami Nagano Sports Park in south Nagano. There are nice paths around gardens, fields, Olympics sites, and athletic facilities.
The best choice for a long, off-road run around Nagano is the Ueda Chikuma Nagano Bicycle Way, a paved multi-use path that spans 20 km between Nagano and Chikuma City, following the Chikuma river.
Explore some of the top sights in central Nagano with this 4.4 km loop, including the newly renovated Joyama Park, the Zenkō-ji temple, and the pedestrian-only Zenkoji Nakamise Street
A good opportunity for a mainly off-road run on the western edge of Nagano. Nice paths around Saigawa Kasenjiki Park, and then a multi-use path along the Susbana river. Up to 8 km out and back.
It’s somewhat of a novelty run, but there are some decent paved paths winding through the Chausuyama Botanical Gardens and Dinosaur Park. The park and gardens are a nice oasis of green. We’ve mapped a 5k route.
The most popular running option in Sarajevo. Run the waterfront for up to 10 km one-way. Highlights include the Old City and Dariva.
Explore Sarajevo’s Old City on this 3.5 km loop of historic and tourist sites. Go early in the day to avoid crowds; add on the river or parks routes for more distance.
A beautiful run beginning from Ilidža, 15 km southwest of Sarajevo center. Manicured gravel paths and a series of bridges along a branching waterway.
A chain of parks runs along M18 just west of the Old City. We’ve mapped an 8 km loop on mostly bike paths and park lanes.
A beautiful route through the countryside near Sarajevo. Visit the Skakavac Waterfall on the Put za Skakavac road and/or nearby trails.
Visit a scenic viewpoint overlooking Sarajevo with this 7 km run through the beautiful Trebevic countryside. It's a steep climb. Bonus: abandoned bobsled track.
The sand on Acapulco might not be perfect for running, but it is plentiful! It’s possible to run up to 3 km one way on the beaches of Acapulco Bay.
Run the waterfront of Acapulco’s Tradicional/Las Playas area. Follow Av. Costera Miguel Aleman and Paseo del Pecador for sidewalks and paths.
The Papagayo park is a nice, shaded area to run some loops. The central path is 1 km, but can be combined with the beach or the Malecón de Acapulco.
Another good option for laps in the Deportivo area. The International Center loop is 1.5 km from the Glorieta statue.
A nice long option near the airport, following a wide sidewalk along a moderately trafficked road. Starts near La Isla Shopping Village.
Another option near the Diamond Zone is the palm-lined Costera de Las Palmas/Vidafel Road. It’s a simple sidewalk, but there are some nice sections, especially bordering the Vidanta Golf Course.
Watch the cliff divers jump from the La Quebrada viewing platform after running this scenic 1 km oceanfront walkway. Connect to the Malecón de Acapulco route for more distance.
The best bet for running in Gold Coast is to head for the shoreline. The Gold Coast Oceanway stretches along several sections of coast for a total of 36 km. We've mapped several sections.
Run amongst the koalas and kangaroos on this tour of Coombabah Lakelands’ boardwalks and double-track trails. We’ve mapped a 5.6 km loop.
Venture into the bush at Nerang State Forest, just 10 km northwest of Gold Coast. We’ve mapped a gentle 15 km over fire roads.
The Border Trail is the perfect blend of bush and residential running. It’s an 8 km out and back starting from the Hidden Valley Reserve in Currumbin.
Enjoy the posh scenery of residential Main Beach on this 5 mile cruise through a ritzy seaside neighborhood.
Take a scenic detour down the coast to the Solitary Islands Coastal Walk, a 60 km combination of beaches, headlands, and pathways through town.
There is more waterfront running along the Nerang River between Biggera Waters and Southport. Up to 7 km one way.
Kingscliff, located south of Gold Coast near the border with New South Wales, has great running along the beach and the Tweed River.
This manmade lake in the southeast of Topeka is the local favorite running route. A beautiful concrete pathway encircles the lake for a ~7 mile loop.
The Shunga Trail follows the Shunganunga Creek across the city from East Topeka North to Southwest Topeka. It’s an 8 mile paved multi-use path.
The Landon Nature trails runs north to south through Topeka, with paved and gravel sections. The rural sections near the airport are especially nice.
There is a large trail network at MacLennan Park, an area of Kaw River State Park. The “Yellow Trail” is the best easy running option.
The Azura Trails of Skyline Park span nearly 5 miles around and over Burnett’s Mound, which is the highest elevation in Shawnee County.
The best running option in North Topeka is the Soldier Creek Trail, a 2 mile pathway along the eponymous waterway. Start from Garfield Park.
The University town of Lawrence has several running options, including Clinton Lake, the Lawrence Loop, and the Old West Lawrence neighborhood.
The “Swanny” Trail is a paved multi-use path which follows the Rapid Creek through Rapid City. Nearly the entire 8-mile trail forms a sort of linear park extending from downtown. Good loop options incorporating the major downtown parks.
A nice variety of trail running close to the center of Rapid City. Up to 12 miles of trail to choose from, but the Skyline Trail is a good option. Hilly!
15 miles southwest of Rapid City, the Storm Mountain trail system offers something for everyone. The double track forest roads are the most accessible choices for running.
A large dog and sporting park in the southeast part of Rapid City. The park features a playground, sporting fields, a BMX park, and a ~2 mile concrete loop trail.
Wherever you go in the Black Hills, the Mickelson Trail is never far off. Hop on any section of this 108 mile rail trail for a fun out and back. The trail is mostly gravel but it's an easy, wide surface The trail map has excellent details on trail segments and distances.
There are many trails to choose from in Custer State Park, but the easygoing trails around Sylvan Lake and the first couple of miles of the path toward Black Elk Peak are some of the best options for running.
It’s a short novelty run, but the 1 mile “Presidential Trail” around Mount Rushmore offers great views of woodland scenery and the famous carvings.
This Black Hills tourist attraction features a wide gravel road leading to the carving of a Lakota leader. Approximately 5 km out and back.
There are paved paths along a good deal of the Meurthe River where it flows through Nancy. We’ve mapped a centralized 3.6 km tour, with an extension to Champigneulles. Nice water views a good part of the way.
More waterfront running can be found along the canal that runs through Nancy parallel to the Meurthe River. The marina/Jardin d'Eau is the best section. Extend for 4 km north of Nancy, or for as much as 15 km southwest to Messein on paved paths.
Beautiful square park in the center of Nancy. Run the 1.8 km perimeter path, explore the interior Allees, or venture through the city to see historic and tourist sights.
This large park on the southwest border of Nancy has beautiful gravel lanes and trails through the woods. Easily connects to Jardin Botanique Jean-Marie Pelt for a loop of up to 6.3 km.
Sprawling green park with rose gardens and asphalt paths, located in Vandœuvre-lès-Nancy south of the city. A perimeter loop is 2 km.
A small park in the Haussonville - Blandan - Donop area southwest of Nancy center. Runners can do laps on this 1 km circuit.
Forêt Domaniale de Haye (west of Nancy) and Forêt Domaniale de la Reine/Lorraine Regional Nature Reserve (northwest of Nancy) are large public forests with a number of running routes to choose from.
Use any of these bike paths to connect to our routes, or run them as out and back options. Most are more utilitarian than scenic.
The most accessible running route in Annecy is along the northern waterfront of Lac d’Annecy. Great views, and scenic highlights like the Pont des Amours.
The best long distance running in Annecy is the Voie Verte, a paved cycling path stretching 35 km between Annecy and Ugine. Combination of along the water and inland. The first 5 km is mostly along the water, so that would be a nice 10k out and back.
A great way to explore the Old Town of Annecy is to run the pretty promenades along Le Thiou. It’s crowded near the center of the city, but opens up as runners reach rural sections to the west. Add on with Jardin de l'Europe & Quai de la Tournette.
A network of wooded, gravel paths between the Parcours Sportif de Meythet and the Centre Sportif Marcel Dassault in the northeast reaches of Annecy. Good running track in the adjacent Parc des Sports.
The waterfront of Saint Jorioz is another scenic running option, with pretty concrete and gravel paths lining the lakeside. Run a 5 km out and back, or combine with the Voie Verte for a loop.
Find easygoing trail running on the smooth dirt paths leading through the meadows and ridgelines of Semnoz, just west of Saint Jorioz. We’ve mapped a 6.5 km route.
This nature park on the south shore of Lac d'Annecy boasts great views from its meandering boardwalks. A loop is 3 km, but the Voie Verte is nearby for more mileage.
The best running spot in Trinidad & Tobago's capital city. Landmarks, striking homes, and an lots of green. We've mapped a nice 4-mile run around the perimeter roads, but there are also some nice interior trails.
The beautiful Chaguaramas Boardwalk borders the St. Peters and Williams Bay waterfronts for nearly 6 km. It's a combination of boardwalk and paved bike lane.
There is great running surrounding the Chaguaramas Golf Course in Mount Pleasant. Highlights include the Bamboo Cathedral, Bamboo Cathedral Lookout, and Samaan Park.
Trinidad is known for its beautiful beaches. Not all of them are suited for running, but we’ve pointed out the best stretches for flat sand and long runs.
Although there aren’t many runnable roads on the small island of Tobago, there are some very pretty spots, each of them unique. Best options for trail and beach running: Pigeon Point, the Tobago Plantations, No Man’s Land, and Pirate’s Bay.

The signature run in Augusta, with several sections along the Savannah River and the Canal itself. The main canal route is a 7-mile gravel towpath. The River Levee Trail runs for 4 miles along the Savannah River. Several side trails make for good add-ons.
A paved multi-use path in North Augusta that runs for 5.6 miles from Brick Park to the I-20. Additional southern loop through Boeckh Park and Brick Pond Park is the most attractive. Also in North Augusta are the Palmetto Parkway Trail & Knox Ave. Path.
A 1,100 acre preserve featuring some terrific running options on dirt roads, sandy trails, and boardwalks. The main loop is ~8 miles, with lots of shorter options.
Another popular trail running option is the extensive Fork Area Trail System. 37 miles of trails, with several marked loop options. Shared with mountain bikers.
Blanchard Woods Park is the home turf of the Augusta University Cross Country Team. Many miles of smooth, mainly wooded paths, with mapped courses ranging from 3 km to 10 km.
Run in the largest privately-owned urban forest in the country! Located in Aiken, SC, there are 70 miles of sandy paths, with a generally good surface. Free and open to the public.
The yellow-blazed Bartram Trail offers up to 27 miles of scenic trail running along J. Strom Thurmond Lake, ~20 miles northwest of Augusta. Choose a section from one of the main areas. Mainly wooded, with some nice lake views.
The longest beachfront promenade in Sub-Saharan Africa is the signature running spot in Durban. The 8 km brick pathway along Golden Mile and Durban Beach features great views of the Indian Ocean. The beach is also runnable.
The Umhlanga Promenade is a pretty brick pathway lining the beach. The Umhlanga Lighthouse and Whalebone Pier are the highlights. An out and back is about 5 km.
A short, scenic path along the Umgeni River. A great run on its own or can be done in combination with the Durban Beach Promenade. About 4 km out and back.
A great road run through the neighborhoods of Durban North on a path/sidewalk along the M12. It’s possible to run the whole 9 km, but some sections are more protected from traffic than others. Nice ridgeline views.
Any of the streets that run north to south between Glenwood and Morningside make for pleasant neighborhood running. We’ve mapped a 13 km route as an example. Pleasant sidewalks, attractive homes, and park-like greenery.
Some of the best trail running in Durban can be found at the Kenneth Stainbank Nature Reserve. There are about 13 km of paths, and a 10 km mountain bike trail, looping around a coastal, rivervine forest, and grassland mosaic habitat.
Giba Gorge is a beloved mountain bike park, but its trails also welcome runners. Their website provides some popular trail running routes, and they also host a 5 km group run on Sunday mornings.
Run the Necklace Road circling the Hussain Sagar lake or explore the nearby paths of Sanjeevaiah Park and Indira Park.
The large green space of Kasu Brahmanandha Reddy (KBR Park) is one of the most popular places for running in Hyderabad. There is a 5km jogging track and lots of interior paths. Located in the affluent Jubilee Hills area.
Another promising lakeside running loop is the Durgam Cheruvu Walkway. There is a 4.4 km dirt track around the waterfront, and a fantastic cable bridge. It's in the western part of Jubilee Hills.
Also known as the Hyderabad Botanical Garden, is good for running, with smooth, runnable dirt trails. A loop is 3.5 km. Add on with the GMC Sports Complex, Kondapur area, University of Hyderabad campus.
The park-like grounds of this sprawling campus offer one of the better options for a longer run in Hyderabad. We’ve mapped a 9.4 km loop around the area. Pretty and verdant, and a good shade option on a hot day.
The Cantonment area of Secunderabad is one of the better areas for road running in Hyderabad. Run some of the well-maintained streets and enjoy Cantonment Par, the Parade Grounds, and even the nearby cricket pitches!
The streets of the Financial District are some of the best kept running options in Hyderabad. Use our mapped 11 km route spanning Nanakramguda, the Indian School of Business, and some small parks as guide for your own route!
The best option for a long run on Salvador’s coast. Follow the Avenida Octávio Mangabeira promenade for up to 15 km, or run along the sandy beach.
Nice brick pathways surround the Dique do Tororó lake in the center of Salvador. A full loop around is 2.6 km.
A linear park runs down the center of Av. Centenário, a busy main drag near the center of Salvador. 1.6 km, or hop on Av. Oceanica for more distance.
Run along the bay coast of Salvador. The waterfront promenades of Av. Oceanica and Ave. Sete de Setembro stretch for about 6 km one way.
No trip to Salvador would be complete without a tour through the historic Pelourinho neighborhood. We’ve mapped a 5k around some of the top tourist sights.
Pituaçu Park hugs the coast between the neighborhood of Pituaçu and the Av. Paralela Highway. There is a 15 km paved bike path surrounding the lagoon.
Trail runners can put together an adventurous course at Parque Abaeté and the sandy dune trails surrounding the Abaeté Lagoon.
Salvador’s longest bike path follows the corridor of the busy Avenida Paralela/Av. Luís Viana Filho highway. It’s not very scenic, but a good option for a long run or a commute.
For a longer off-road run in the area, the Timpoochee Trail is a good option. The paved multi-use path runs for 19 miles along Highway 30A between Santa Rosa and Rosemary Beach. Not all that scenic.
The center of Córdoba has plenty of great opportunities for a run. There are several sights to see downtown, including the architecture of the Plaza San Martín.
The largest park in Argentina, Parque Sarmiento is the most popular running area in Córdoba. A loop around the main pathways is about 5.7 km, but runners can continue into the University campus for a longer route.
The Suquía River winds right through the center of Córdoba. It’s many paved, waterfront pathways offer runners plenty of opportunities for a long run while exploring the city along the way.
The Reserva Natural Urbana San Martín/Parque Municipal San Martín is located along the Rio Suquía in northwest Córdoba. There are more than 5km of off-road running here.
Parque Kempes and Parque del Chateau are a nice run on their own or in combination with the Parque Municipal San Martín or the Río Suquía paths. We’ve mapped a 5.4 km tour.
The pedestrian-only center of Essen is a great spot for a run. We’ve mapped a 5 km course that highlights some of the architectural sights in the area.
Some of the best running in Essen can be found along the paths of the Ruhr River. We especially like the scenic 14 km loop around Baldeneysee.
While Baldeneysee is the most popular running route along the Ruhr River, there are plenty of other starting points that can result in a great run. Spillenburger Wehr is another favorite.
Grugapark is home to Essen’s magnificent botanical gardens, as well as a calisthenics park, playing fields, and miles of runnable paved paths. While there are many options here, we’ve mapped a 4 km perimeter loop.
Rheinelbe is one of the better areas for a DIY run through parks and multi-use paths. Rheinelbe Park, Von-Wedelstaedt Park, and the Halde Rheinelbe are highlights. Get some hill and stair work in at Stockpile Rheinelbe!
Emscher Park and the adjacent Nordstern Park offer some of the best running in northern Essen. We’ve mapped a 6.7 km loop along the banks of the Rhein-Herne-Kanal.
Gleispark Frintrop is another good running option along the Rhein-Herne-Kanal. Runners will find about 6 km of trails. Connect to Emscher Park for more options.
The Schloß Park, just north of Schönebeck, is a spacious green area dotted with historic buildings and asphalt pathways. A loop around the grounds is about 3 km.
Helenen Park is a combination of dense forest and fields with a good variety of asphalt and gravel paths networked along the Stoppenberger Bach. A loop is 2.3 km.

Maidan Park is a large green space along the Hooghly River, and one of the most popular places to run in Kolkata. Runners can also experience tourist attractions like the Victoria Memorial and Fort Williams.
Alipore is one of the best choices for a neighborhood run in Kolkata. Run the scenic paths around the National Library and the Agri Horticultural Society of India, or connect to Maidan Park for more mileage.
One of the best places to run in Kolkata is the Chandra Bose Indian Botanic Garden, which is famous for its giant “Great Banyan Tree.” We’ve mapped a 4.4 km perimeter loop on pleasantly wide paths, with more possible on interior paths
Run a loop around Rabindra Sarobar Lake in the south of Kolkata. This stone-paved path is about 4 km with lots of landmarks to see along the way.
This park in the northeast of Kolkata has lots of interesting running along the lakefront and through its decorative gardens. We’ve mapped a 6.4 km loop.
The Salt Lake area, also known as Bidhannagar, is a great option for neighborhood running. The waterfront roads around Salt Lake and paths around the parks of the East Kolkata Wetlands make for a peaceful run with lots of options.
Run the streets of central Chengdu with our 16 km ‘runseeing’ tour! Highlights include ChunXi Road, Tianfu Square, People's Park, Kuan and Zhai Alley, and the Anshun Bridge. Includes 5 km along the Jinjiang River.
Connect some of Chengdu’s best parks on this “Greenway” route on a 25 km cycle path. The path starts from Jincheng Park and continues east to Qinglong Lake. Good running options in Jincheng Park, Bailuwan Wetland, and Qinglong Lake.
The roads of Chengdu are organized in a series of concentric circles, with Tianfu Square at the center. The elevated Second Ring Road has a pedestrian path running beneath the highway for its entire 30 km length. Add-ons in Huanhuaxi Park, and Dongu Park.
Huanhuaxi Park is a large green space located between the Qingshui River and Huanhua Brook in western Chengdu. There are plenty of paths, and runners can cross onto the grounds of Du Fu Cottage for a small fee.
On the far north side of Chengdu, Phoenix Mountains Park is a prime location for a long and varied run. There is a ~1 km running track and more than 5 km of other paths. Paths on Dongfeng Canal just north of the park for a longer run.
Donghu Park is a great starting place for a run along the upper branch of the Jinjiang River. There is a multi-use path along the Jinjiang River for about 6.6 km between the 2nd Ring Road and the Chengdu Ring Road (G4201)
The most popular places to run in Valparaíso are along the waterfront. There are paths starting from the center of Valparaíso and along the beaches of Viña del Mar. Up to 14.5 km one way.
There is more great waterfront running along the waterfront of the Playa Ancha peninsula, just to the west of Valparaíso. Follow Altamirano and Camino Costero for 4 km to the Mirador Viento Sur. Most of the routes is above the water, with great views.
Get in some hill work and enjoy some of the city’s best street art with this route around Cerro Concepción. It’s a great route for sightseeing and can be combined with the Brasil route for more mileage.
This long linear park down the median of Valparaíso’s Brasil Road allows runners to experience the sights and scenes of busy downtown for up to 3.3 km out and back. The walkway is lined with palm trees, gardens, and monuments. Waterfront route is also nearby.
The large and lively Quinta Vergara park near Viña del Mar has plenty of great options for runs, from forested trails to lanes around the amphitheater and gardens. We’ve mapped a 2.6 km loop around the park.
For a small fee of $2 USD, runners can access a wide selection of trails and paths at the Viña del Mar Botanical Gardens. There is a pedestrian path, a shared cycling lane, and several other runnable trails and roads.
The most popular running option in Guayaquil. The Malecón 2000 is a delightful brick waterfront promenade along 2.4 km of the city’s coast. Includes monuments and other top sites.
Run the boardwalks of the Isla Santay National Recreation Area, accessible via pedestrian bridges from Guayaquil. The highlight is the 6 km “ciclovia.” Pairs well with Malecón 2000.
Enjoy some hill work on the steps of Cerro Santa Ana, then extend your route on the waterfront of the Las Penas neighborhood, where you can look back on the colorful rows of houses and shops.
This large park in north Guayaquil has over 4 km of lovely brick paths around the perimeter. Runners can also cross the street into Reserva Senderos and run along the dirt bike path.
There are great routes on the west side of Guayaquil, where runners can seek out the waterfront paths of the Parque Lineal del Estero Salado. We’ve mapped an 8 km loop starting from the university.
Plaza Lagos is a shopping center in north Guayaquil, but it’s also a community of nicely developed promenades and residential streets. We’ve mapped a 3 km loop.
This forest area on the western outskirts of Guayaquil features numerous trails, including a wide, flat, dirt bike path around the park perimeter. It’s a 2.5 km loop. The terrain is mainly wooded.
The Parque Lineal Kennedy Norte is a great option in north-central Guayaquil, especially for those located near the airport. There is a 1 km promenade along the estuary, with runnable residential street options nearby.
There are some more waterfront paths in the Cisne/Ximena/Isla Trinitaria area of southwest Guayaquil. Not the most scenic, but they can be combined for a run in the southwest of Guayaquil.
A series of waterfront paths and promenades dot the towns around Lake Garda, featuring stunning water and mountain views. We've mapped 13 of them, totaling ~75 km. Eventually these lakeside walkways will be connected by the Garda by Bike Path.
The Sarca River flows into the northern end of Lake Garda between Linfano and Torbole. A paved multi-use path runs along the river for 8 km to Ceniga. Some beautiful mountain views.

Enjoy the top tourist destinations in Verona’s Old City and Citadella with this ~8 km tour around central Verona and the Adige River. Passes by the Arena di Verona, site of the closing ceremonies for 2026 Winter Olympic Games.
The Adige River flows through the center of Verona, providing plenty of opportunities for a waterfront run in the city. The best section for running is the along the north bank, from the Ponte Pietra to Ponte Catena.
The Passeggiata Montorio Ferrazze San Martino is a flat, quiet multi-use path which runs between San Martino Buon Albergo and Montorio Veronese, villages just east of Verona. It's 6 km out and back, mainly through farm fields and along a canal.
Find more waterfront running along the Canale Biffis, which reaches west from Verona. There are two sections: 3.3 km from Via S. Marco bridge, and a 4.4 km section to the Via Piemonte in Longiar. It's possible to connect the two sections.
A nice option that highlights the scenic farmland surrounding Verona. The Ciclabile del Prongo reaches about 5 km from Santa Croce to the village of Santa Maria In Stelle, with options to extend for another 3 km to the hilltop Arx Silentina, with great views.

There are many great running options featuring the multi-use paths lining the River Thames. Take the Thames Path south to the historic Iffley Lock, or further. Or, incorporate Thames paths with loops around Port Meadow and Christ Church Meadow.
The “University Parks” surrounding the River Cherwell in the east of Oxford have many great running paths. We’ve mapped a 5.5 km loop through the parks, and a 6.4 km tour of the Marston Ferry Path.
If you tire of the river paths in Oxford, another great long-distance option is the Oxford Canal. This towpath follows the waterside for 77 miles. We've mapped a 10k out and back from Gloucester Green and the Wolvercote Lakes, with options for many more miles.
Opportunities for a light trail run abound on the paths of Shotover Country Park in Headington. Run the paths on their own, or follow our 5 km route to reach the park from the center of the city. It's also easily reachable by transport.
This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a worth-it destination run. Miles of smooth and scenic walking paths surround spectacular grounds and formal gardens of this 17th century estate. We've recommended certain trails and mapped a loop from Woodstock.
Looking for some fun and friendly competition? Cutteslowe and Sunnymead Park in northern Oxford is home to Parkrun, a free group 5k held every Saturday morning.
The best option for running in central Fairbanks. There are east and west sections of the trail that can be combined using 1st Ave for a total of 8 miles out and back.
The University of Alaska Fairbanks campus has plenty of running options. There are public trails, runnable roads, multi-use paths, and even winter trail options.
Beaver Sports is one of the top running, cycling, and adventure sports shops in Fairbanks. There are more than 25 miles of trails behind the store that are perfect for wintertime running. Summer tends to be swampy. Pop into the store for trail recs!
A smooth gravel multi-use trail leading west out of Fairbanks along Sheep Creek Road. It meets with a larger trail system near Ester Dome for more options.
The Pearl Creek Elementary School in the Dogpatch neighborhood is an ideal starting point for varied trail runs and access to the bike lanes of Auburn Drive and Farmers Loop Road.
The Creamer’s Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge at the historic Creamer family farm in northern Fairbanks has miles of trails that connect to UAF and other destinations around the city.
Though it’s typically too wet for running in the warm months, Goldstream Public Use Area is a good choice for off-season running. Options include the Tanana Valley Railroad Trail and the Eldorado Creek Trail.
Birch Hill is a popular ski area in the wintertime, and a popular running/hiking destination in summer. Some of the favorite running trails include the 6.2 km Blackhawk loop.
Gravel access roads and all-seasons trails make the Tanana Lakes Recreation Area in the south of Fairbanks a popular running destination at any time of year.
The cornerstone of running in Coeur d’Alene. This paved multi-use path wraps around the lakeside for great views, stretching west into Washington. Floating Boardwalk is a highlight! We've mapped 10.5 miles of 24 miles, can add w/Prairie Trail.
A great easy trail running option close to the center of the city. This ~2 mile loop on a gravel path wraps around the lakeside. More extension opportunities throughout the park. For a challenge, tackle the summit!
Paved, 73-mile multi-use trail following a former rail line from Plummer to Mulan. Very scenic, meandering through the historic Silver Valley, along the Coeur d’Alene River past scenic Lake Coeur d’Alene and through rolling farmlands. The Chatcolet Bridge is a highlight!
Mineral Ridge, located on Lake Coeur d’Alene’s Beauty Bay, has a lovely smooth 2 mile trail with fantastic views out over the water. Some hill work required. There are other trails in the area, including several forest service roads.
There are lots of trail running options around the Idaho Panhandle National Forest, but Canfield Mountain is one of the most popular. We’ve mapped a gentle 5.4 mile route to “The Island” and back. A hilly route, climbing 1,000+ feet!
This beautiful state park to the northeast of Coeur d’Alene is a popular camping and recreation destination. There are over 45 miles of runnable trails, including The Buggy Trail and The Beaver Bay Shoreline Trail.
One of the most scenic rail trails in the United States, the route is along a former rail line that's now 15-mile gravel path, featuring 10 train tunnels and 7 sky-high trestles. It's set up so bikers (or ambitious runners!) can do the route one way and take a shuttle back!
Liverpool’s premier running specialists, Natterjack Running, have plotted an exceptional 7 km tour around the city’s top sights. Includes the Royal Albert Docks, Chinatown, Liverpool Cathedral, and St. Georges Quarter.
Rupert Lane Recreation Ground is a grassy linear park in central Liverpool with lovely paths and a good spot for hill training! Combine with a run to Stanley Park for more distance.
The Royal Albert Dock is a sight unto itself, and the many waterfront promenades here pass by statues, museums, and tourist attractions of all stripes. Do a loop or combine with the Otterspool Promenade for a long run.
Wonderful waterfront running in the southern part of Liverpool. The Otterspool Promenade multi-use path stretches for 6 km along the River Mersey. Additional waterfront paths at the Speke and Garston Coastal Reserve, and between Pickering Pasture and West Bank.
The Wirral Circular Trail is a 35 mile circuit around the Wirral Peninsula, the rectangular spit of land that sits due west of Liverpool. We’ve pointed to some of the best running highlights on the peninsula.
The 346 km Trans Pennine Trail stretches coast to coast across England, hitting some of the top historic cities and sights along the way. About 17 km of paved pathway runs right through Liverpool, between New Hall and Speke.
Located just 11 km north of Liverpool Center, Crosby Beach is a fantastic destination run. A wide seaside promenade runs along the coast where the River Mersey meets the Irish Sea. Includes loop around Marine Lake and good add-on options.
This 200 acre park has miles of meandering asphalt pathways around the lakes and fields. We’ve mapped a 5k highlights loop. Good add-ons with Princes Park and a detour to the famous Penny Lane!
Newsham Park is a 121 acre Victorian-era park in the east of Liverpool, near Fairfield. A loop around the park is 3.5 km, but the surrounding neighborhood is also great for exploring.
Calderstones Park is the homebase of the Mossley Hill Running Club. We’ve mapped a 5 km tour of the park, but feel free to branch out into the surrounding neighborhoods of Childwall and Woolton. Bonus: see Strawberry Field!
The towpaths of the Liverpool and Leeds Canal span far enough to satisfy any long distance runner. Our favorite section is through Rimrose Valley Country Park in northern Liverpool.
In addition to its numerous athletic facilities, Sport City in the center of Amman has a great 2 km dirt and asphalt running track.
Located in the east of Amman, Al-Hussein (King Hussein) Park is one of the largest public parks in the city. There is up to 8.5 km of running here, with more streets in the residential Dabouq neighborhood. Bonus: The park is well-lit for night running!
Farmland and quiet traffic free roads surround the International Community School in southern Amman. Crossfit Crescent and the Amman Road Runners have mapped three routes of varying length. See note on route access
The Scandinavian Forest north of Amman is a celebration of smooth dirt doubletrack. The mapped route is short at just under 3 km, but there are lots of quiet roads to add-on.
There is a 4 km loop surrounding the King of Bahrain Forest in southern Amman. There are not many runnable trails through the forest, but the nearby streets of Ghamadan form a perfect route.
Wasfi Al Tal Forest is a bit off the beaten track, but the array of wide dirt roads sprawling through the national park are worth the trip. We share a 13 km course with lots of rolling hills.
The long distance Jordan Trail runs 650 km from Umm Qais to the Red Sea. Not all of the trail is runnable, but there are some good (and scenic) sections not far outside Amman. The level of difficulty varies. Website with good info.
Run the “main drag” through downtown Shreveport, the Red River District, and Bossier City with our 4 mile tour of the city sights. Highlights include crossing the Long-Allen Bridge.
Running along the Red River is the highlight of the scene in Shreveport. There are two paths along the bank of the river, including the Clyde Fant Memorial Parkway and Arthur Ray Teague Parkway.
There are many miles of easygoing trail running at the Red River National Wildlife Refuge, including a car-free gravel road and a loop around scenic Lake Caroline.
Betty Virginia Park has a nice .7 mile loop circling the park, but the real highlights of the Caddo Heights/South Highland Neighborhood are the surrounding streets. We’ve mapped a neighborhood tour that combines with the park loop for a 5k.
Although it has no shoulder or sidewalk, Ellerbe Road is a popular stretch of pavement in Shreveport. The surrounding Ellerbe Woods neighborhood features elegant homes and clean sidewalks.
Trail runners will find plenty of great running options within an hour’s drive of Shreveport, including Lake Bistineau State Park, Bodcau Wildlife Management Area, and The Monkey Trail at Eddie D. Jones Park.
Run the streets of Fez’s pedestrian friendly medina (Fes El Bali) on our 8 km ‘runseeing’ tour. Highlights include the city walls, gardens, and leather tanneries.
Some of the best running in Fez is located in the Forêt d'ain Chkef, a shaded forest located just south of the city center. Here, runners can find over 5k of smooth gravel and dirt pathways.
One of the better options for a road run is the N6 highway between Fez and Meknes. Our favorite section is the wide sidewalk between Agdal and the Université Euro-Méditerranéenne de Fez, nearly 6 km.
The Parc Champ de Course is one of the larger green spaces in Fez. Runners can form a 1 km loop around its palm trees, paths, and gardens, then add on a jaunt to the Jardin de Nouveau Méchouar and back.
The Avenue Hassan II mixes the best of road running and park running together with a lovely median that spans ~2 km down the street.
This moderate trail run departs from the bustling streets of Fez and heads through farmland to great views of the city below. We’ve mapped a 7 km (one way) course.
The crown jewel of the running scene in Missoula is the Clark Fork River trail system. The Kim Williams Trail is the most popular, but there are Riverfront Trails on both banks and more options beyond.
Greenough Park in the northeast of Missoula has multiple trails, including the paved “City Drive” and dirt paths along the Rattlesnake Creek. Combine them for a 1.5 mile loop. Adjacent trail running in the Waterworks or Mount Jumbo paths.
One of the best road running options in Missoula is to combine Arthur Ave and the University District with the beautiful pathways of the University of Montana. Favorite streets include Beckwith Ave and University Ave.
Mount Sentinel is one of the most iconic hikes in Missoula, and there are plenty of runnable trails in the area. Runners can do a short climb up the “M” trail or connect to Pattee Canyon on a longer adventure.
The Blue Mountain Recreation Area in the southwest of Missoula features incredible views and not-too-steep trails, making it a local favorite for trail runners. The 1.75 mile Maclay Flats Trail is a popular choice.
Trail runners will find plenty of inspiration in the Rattlesnake National Recreation Area north of Missoula. There The 515 Trail and the Stuart Peak Trail are both popular, runnable options. There are some steeper, more challenging trail running options too.
A short, but pleasant promenade winds around the scenic harbor of Cabo San Lucas. The Boulevard Paseo de La Marina is a nice nearby addition, and a good way to see the main part of the city.
The best and longest beaches for running in Cabo San Lucas include Playa El Medano, Playa Grande/Solmar, and Playa El Faro. The sand can be soft, but the views are second to none.
There are a few trail running options in Cabo San Lucas, if you know where to look. A trail begins near the Villa del Arco Beach Resort and Spa and reaches to the top of Communication Tower Hill. Hilly, great views, hot and dry -- bring water!
A scenic tourist area north of Cabo San Lucas, El Tule has nice dirt sidewalks, concrete paths, and even a trail through the canyon. We’ve mapped a 5k, but there are lots of options to explore.
San Jose del Cabo is 30 km north of Cabo San Lucas. The best places to run in San Jose del Cabo include a marina loop, paths along an estuary, two long beaches, and a hilly run up the Camino del Cañón.
The signature running option in Bakersfield. Runners can follow a one-way route of up to 20 miles on this multi-use path. The best spots for a loop are The Park at Riverwalk, Yokuts Park, and Panorama Park.
Hart Park, on the far northeast outskirts of the city, has a diversity of running options. There are 2 and 6.5 mile trail routes in the hills, or a 4 mile multi-use path to Lake Ming.
Numerous pedestrian paths on the campus of California State University, Bakersfield make it attractive for running. Enjoy a run on the designated 5k route, or explore the canal trail and Kern River Parkway extension.
Central Park is one of the most gorgeous public spaces in the city of Bakersfield, with a ~2 mile network of concrete and cobblestone trails spanning the waterfront of Mill Creek. Located just east of downtown.
One of the most attractive neighborhoods in the city and very pleasant for running. The streets feature pristine sidewalks, pretty modern homes, manicured gardens and shady tree cover. We’ve mapped a 5 mile loop.
Great running can also be found in the Terra Vista, Artisan, Southern Oaks, and Tevis ranch neighborhoods of southwest Bakersfield. We’ve mapped a 6 mile loop through the area.
Choose a section or run the whole ~9 mile stretch of the Corpus Christi Bay Trail, a waterfront route from the Barge Docks to Cayo de Oso. It’s a great tour through some of the city’s best offerings!
San Padre Island and Mustang Island, the barrier beaches connected to Corpus Christi by the John F. Kennedy Memorial Causeway, offer miles upon miles of great beach running. The Mustang Island State Park is a good starting point.
Head across the canal to the village of North Beach to run a ~3 mile out and back along the lively seaside promenade. Highlights include views of the USS Lexington.
Though it’s technically part of the Corpus Christi Bay Trail, the path at Texas A&M University makes for a pleasant short run on its own. The Hike and Bike Trail is 1.4 miles (one way), but there are more interior university paths and the adjacent Bay Trail.
Sunset Lake Park, located across the Nueces Bay in the suburb of Portland, includes a scenic paved multi-use trail which leads to the Indian Point Pier. Nice water views. 2.7 miles out and back with extensions along Sunset Drive.
The Oso Bay Wetlands offer plenty of running options, including dirt paths, the Holly Hike and Bike Trail, and other multi-use trails. We’ve mapped a ~6 mile route that explores the whole area.
Oso Creek is known for its mountain bike trails, but runners are welcome to utilize the dirt singletrack and multi use trails in this area surrounding Bill Witt City Park. Add more mileage along the Oso Parkway.
This short 2 mile path along the creek following the Shea Parkway is a convenient running option in the South Side of Corpus Christi. Schanen Park and Breckenridge Park are both good starting points.
Fancy a run with interesting architecture and tree-lined streets? The go-to residential neighborhood for running in Corpus Christi is the Calallen suburbs, especially the area surrounding the River Hills Country Club.
The 270 hectare Pardisan Park is one of the larger green spaces in Central Tehran. It’s possible to put together a loop of up to 10 km here, complete with a run over a suspension bridge, views of the Milad Tower, and sighting of local wildlife.
Excellent variety of running options in this 1,450 hectare park located in District 22 in western Tehran. Paths and asphalt roadways, a 5 km boardwalk around a lake, and some forested trail running. Add adjacent botanical gardens
One of the best street runs in Tehran. Valiasr Street is a main thoroughfare through the center of the city with a wide, tree-lined sidewalk. Highlights include parks, architectural sights, and historic homes. Up to 17.5 km one-way.
If you’re in Tehran for the long haul, consider paying the membership fee to the Enghelab Sports Complex. The Enghelab Health Road is a great 2.5 km tarmac path circling the grounds.
Laleh Park is a fairly small green space in District 6 of Tehran, but there are several worthwhile features that make it a great running route. We’ve mapped a 5km incorporating the tree-lined median of Keshavarz Boulevard.
Velayat Great Park is built on the former grounds of the Ghalemorghi military airport. Today, it is manicured with stone walkways, gardens, and a 5.5 km paved running track circling the perimeter.
Runners will be lured in by the “Water and Fire” park’s crushed stone pathways and numerous bridges. Our 4.25 km loop three bridge/three park loop, explores the grounds of Ab-o Atash Park, Taleghani Park, and Nowrooz Park. Located in District 3.
This linear park along the Kan Creek in District 22 is favored by cyclists for its long paved lanes, but runners can also enjoy a good out and back or loop along the banks. The longest option is a ~5 km out and back along the west bank.
This fascinating neighborhood at the far north city limits of Tehran is worth the travel for a destination run or a trail session. Options include the Saadabad Historical Complex, Darband Street, and the trail to Mount Tochal.
Run the 3.4 km brick, palm-lined walking/running path surrounding King Fahad Medical City (KFMC). It’s a popular recreation destination and well-lit for night running.
King Abdullah Park is the largest park in the city. It’s famous for its dancing water fountain displays, sprawling green lawns, and miles of wide stone and brick paths. The perimeter path is 2 km.
Runners will find a 4 km rectangular running/walking path around the campus of Prince Sultan University, just northeast of Riyadh center. There are other 'walkway' paths to enjoy, notably the King Abdullah Flower Path.
Al Safarat, Riyadh’s Diplomatic Quarter, is the among most pedestrian-friendly sections of Riyadh, with numerous designated pathways. Our 12.5 km loop around the perimeter is the best bet for a long run in Riyadh! Numerous additional paths as well.
This long, narrow linear park along the Nahdah Road in east Riyadh offers some of the better long distance running in the city (by Riyadh standards). A “Figure 8” around the park is just over 7 km.
For runners who would like to explore a bit of desert terrain without leaving the city, Wadi Hanifah offers a long dirt pathway along the waterway of the same name. Highlights include the north end in Wadi Hanifa Park and the promenade in Sultanah.
The public King Saud University campus in east Riyadh doesn’t have much to see, but it does have a number of pristine sidewalks where runners can piece together a great loop.
The best running routes in Hanover are the multi-use paths along the Leine and Ihme Rivers. We've mapped two river path routes, and a couple of loop options. Maschpark (New Town Hall) is a good starting point.
The 78 hectare Maschsee Lake in Südstadt-Bult is encircled by a 6 km asphalt multi-use path along the water. Runners can also branch out onto nearby gravel paths.
Just outside the grounds of the Leibniz Universität Hannover, the manicured Georgengarten and Herrenhauser Garten have lovely paths, including the tree-lined Herrenhäuser Allee.
Use the 1.5 km pedestrian median along Georgstraße as the anchor for a 'runseeing' tour of the older, historic section of Hannover, which lies between the Leine River and the Central train station. A nice addition to our Georgengarten or Leine River routes.
Eilenriede is the largest urban forest in Germany, located on the east end of the city near Oststadt. There are many km of paths, which are mainly gravel or packed dirt.
A great way to experience the quiet German countryside is to head to the southwest outskirts of Hannover and run along the Benther Berg ridgeline. There are miles of dirt singletrack, as well as gravel and brick farm roads.
The largest lake in Lower Saxony is located about 30 km northwest of Hannover, which makes it a great destination run. A loop around the lake can reach up to 30 km.
Altwarmbüchener See is a short 3.5 km lake loop at the northeast edge of Hannover which connects to a nearby bike path for more distance.
The pinnacle of running in Cardiff is the network of parks and multi-use paths surrounding the River Taff. There are many options for running here, including paths along the Canal and River, and in the adjacent fields, parks, and heaths.
A supremely satisfying 10 km loop around Cardiff’s southern waterfront, the Cardiff Bay Trail keeps runs interesting with a variety of surfaces, from concrete and brick to asphalt and bouncy boardwalk.
Located due north of Cardiff Center, Roath Park is one of the most popular recreation areas in the city. Runners will enjoy miles of gravel paths along a 2+ mile long linear park that features a brook, lake, fields, and gardens.
Run the grounds of Castell Coch, 6 miles north of the city, which feature a network of gravel paths sprawling across the Forest Fawr. These trails are wooded and serene, but smooth and non-technical.
This gentle mountain slope is located between Llantwit Fardre and Pentyrch, about 8 miles northwest of Cardiff. Most of the paths are nice doubletrack over spongy grass or smooth dirt.
Lovely running along the River Ely, in the western part of Cardiff. We've mapped a riverfront route from Grangemoor Park to Sanatorium Park, and a separate route to St. Fagans, with its historic village and attractive Castle grounds.
Cardiff is a rather small city with pedestrian friendly streets and sidewalks. Visitors will find plenty of charm in Cardiff’s upper scale residential neighborhoods. We love running in the Penylan, Pontcanna, and Penarth neighborhoods.

Brecon Beacons is one of the jewels of Wales, located about 55 km to the north of Cardiff at the terminus of the River Taff Trail. We’ve pointed out some of the top trail trails for running among the many options. Mainly open rolling hills and moorish terrain.
The city of Mesa sits east of Phoenix and Tempe. It’s the gateway to some of the Phoenix metro area’s top trail running spots. We love running in Red Mountain Park, Pioneer Park, the Usery Mountain trails, and around Saguaro Lake.
There's excellent running in this city southeast of Phoenix. Veterans Oasis Park has a Sonoran desert feel. San Tan Mountain Regional Park has miles of desert trails. There are also three longer, paved multi-use trails that are great for running.
There's some excellent running in Gilbert, located southeast of Phoenix, including a large network of paved multi-use trails and the wetland trail at Riparian Preserve. The Hieroglyphics Trail is a good spot for a scenic, gentle trail run.
Glendale and Peoria make up the majority of the suburbs northeast of Phoenix. Favorite running spots include Thunderbird Paseo Park, the Arrowhead Lakes residential area, New River/Skunk Creek multi-use trails, and White Tank Mountain Regional Park.
The best places to run Houston's southeast suburbs of Pearland, Friendswood, and Pasadena. Pleasant parks, and some nice multi-use paths. Shadow Creek Ranch and Highland Park are two lovely residential neighborhoods for running.
Our recommendations for running in two of Houston's largest larger southwest suburbs, Sugar Land and Missouri City. For trails and parks, we love Oyster Creek and the Brazos River Trails. New Territory/Clayton's Bend and First Colony are great neighborhood running.
This big suburb to the southeast of Houston features routes near the famous Houston Space Center and the Galveston Bay coast.
Running highlights in Houston's northernmost suburbs include routes designed by the Woodlands running club in that master planned community, Mercer Arboretum, Spring Creek Greenway, and the Kingwood Greenbelt Trails.
On the west side of Houston's "Energy Corridor," the suburb of Katy features some of the top-rated neighborhoods and lovely multi-use trails. Running highlights include Spring Lake, the Mason Creek Trail, and some nice neighborhood running.
A popular residential suburb to the northwest of Houston, the top runs in Cypress include the Little Cypress Creek Preserve and a handful of pleasant neighborhoods, including Coles Crossing and Fairfield Twin Ponds.
Baytown is located across the San Jacinto Bay about 30 minutes to the east of Houston. There's a lovely waterfront run on the Goose Creek Trail in Bayland Park, as well as some pleasant waterfront running in Brownwood, 5 miles east.
This sprawling tour of Saint John is a great long distance run on its own, but runners can also use the map to pick and choose some of the best road running in the city. Up to 21 km.
Experience the working waterfront of Saint John on this paved multi-use path along the Saint John River. Great water views! The trail is 3.7 km out and back. Longer option extends to Reversing Falls Bridge and a brief downtown tour with a good hill!
One of the largest municipal parks in Canada, and the go-to spot for recreation in Saint John, is Rockwood Park. More than 50 km of paved, stone, and dirt trails to choose from.
Just a ten minute drive west of Saint John, Irving Nature Park highlights the beautiful marshes and coastline of the Bay of Fundy. There are 8 trails of various length. The main loop trail using Irving Park Nature Road is about 9 km. Good trail running opps as well.
A well-maintained gravel lakeside loop in the eastern neighborhoods of Saint John. A loop around the “Rez Trail” is 4 km, with opportunities for extensions.
Saint-Andrews-by-the-Sea is one of the top vacation destinations in New Brunswick, just 100 km down the coast from Saint John. There's some fantastic running incorporating the 'tidal phenomenon', an island loop, and the St. Andrews Multi-Use Pathway.
Easily accessible from anywhere in downtown Corvallis, the Willamette River Path hugs the waterfront for approximately 1 mile along First Street and Riverfront Commemorative Park. Continue along the Marys River path for more mileage.
For short easy runs in the south of the city, look no further than Willamette Park and Natural Area, the city’s largest green space. A loop around the park and the gravel path headed south is ~4 miles.
This landscaped campus features many sidewalked streets and pedestrian paths, lined with trees and stately brick buildings, and is a designated Historic District. Can be add-on to the Bald Hill Nature Area/Willamette River Path.
Gorgeous valley views at this 285-acre nature park near OSU. Gravel trails switchback their way around Bald Hill, which can be combined with a 1.5 mile flatter multi-use path.
A good trail running option close to town with rolling hills through forest and meadow. Connect to the Timber Hill neighborhood or Lester Ave for road running extensions, or continue onto the more rugged trails of McDonald-Dunn Forest.
The Oregon State University’s research forest has miles of runnable public trails as well as access to the McDonald-Dunn Forest trail network.
The boardwalk from Summerstrand to Kings Beach is the finest waterfront run in Port Elizabeth, totaling 4 km out and back along the beach.

The Sacramento Trail is a lovely 8 km round-trip coastal run just to the south of Port Elizabeth, along the Sardinia Bay. This trail climbs over the green scrub of the dunes and offers up great oceanside views It's a gentle trail run on a dirt surface.
If you’re looking for some friendly running competition in Port Elizabeth, check out Parkrun, a free 5k that takes place on Saturday mornings. There are four parkrun locations around Port Elizabeth.
This 7.5 km trail through the Baakens River Valley is popular trail run, centrally located in the Mill Park area. Runners can catch great views of the Baakens, and may even spot one of the guinea fowl for which the trail is named!
Two good running options in the Wells Estate area of northern Port Elizabeth are the Aloe Walking Trail, which offers 7 km of trail with great views of the Swartkops River, and a 2 km section of Amsterdamhoek Dr., which runs right along the river.
This large conservation area 40 km west of Port Elizabeth is a pleasant escape from the city where runners can explore a network of well groomed gravel roads and trails while learning about the local flora.
Just south of Wilmington, in New Castle, runners will find the New Castle Battery Park. A short paved path follows along the Delaware River for about 2 miles one-way.

Run the garden-lined median of Boulevard Mohammed VI, which runs 8 km between Chamo El Ghoul and Agdal. Add on loops of Oliveraie Park, Menara Gardens, or Cyber Park for more distance.
The beautiful and historic Menara Gardens offer about 4 km of paths. Extend your route along Avenue Prince Moulay Rachid and add loops of Oliveraie Park/Cyber Park for a longer run.
Take a long run of up to 18 km on the wide dirt path outside the time-tested Medina Walls. It’s a good way to explore the historic old city while avoiding the crowds, and can be shortened by passing back through any gate.
A prize section of the Walls of Medina, or a great run on its own, the grounds of the Agdal Gardens feature over 10 km of pathways through orchards. Continue on Oasis Hassan II/ Route Golf Royal for a longer loop.

By far the best running in Kobe is along the waterfront promenades of Osaka Bay. There is no one continuous path, but runners can find good sections near Harborland, Suma, Wakinohamakaigandori, and Maiko.
The trail up Mount Maya beginning from Shin-Kobe Station is one of the most popular outdoor spaces in Kobe. Highlights of this uphill run include the Nunobiki Waterfall, an herb garden, and an Observation Deck.
This planned community, intended to support elders and foster community growth, is a great place to run on well-kempt sidewalks and paths. There's also a running track and numerous athletic facilities.
Enjoy stunning views of Osaka Bay from the top of the iconic Venus Bridge, and amp up your mileage on tree-lined paths along the Ujigawa River towards Ujigawa Park and Okurayama Park.

Run to the top of Kobe’s tallest mountain on a gentle dirt trail beginning at the gorgeous Rokko Garden Terrace. A not too hilly, 6 km out and back. Numerous other trail options, including an ascent from Ashiyagawa Station.
This gorgeous park of gardens and fountains in the Suma area has its own running track, but it can be combined with nearby walkways, the Botanical Gardens, or the Suma Promenade for more mileage.
The Costanera is a classic waterfront promenade along the Paraguay River. The most popular route along the beach is about 8 km out and back. Options for waterfront route or inland park paths.
The best park for running in Asuncion. Explore the paved 6 km walking/running path and add on the 1.5 km cycling path or other trails for more. Additional paths just to the west in Parque Gausu Metropolitano.
A short but pleasant paved 1.5 km loop in the Santo Domingo neighborhood. A good option to escape the sun, complete with strength training equipment.
The best running option in the San Lorenzo area is the Ciclovía, a paved 2 km loop paralleled by a pedestrian/running lane.
Some smaller Asunción parks that are good for running are Parque Seminario, Parque Público Bernardino Caballero, Jardin Botanico, and Cerro Lambaré. Not great for longer distance running, but good for laps!
Panama City’s signature running option, the Ciclovia Cinta Costera is one of the finest waterfront running routes in Latin America. This paved path is in great condition, stretching more for 8+ km between Estadio Maracana in the south and Democracy Plaza in the north.
A lovely paved multi-use path - either a 5 km one way or a 10 km out and back. Island hop along the causeway from Amador to Naos, Parico, and Flamenco islands.
The go-to running option of inland Panama City, located in the northeast section. A loop around the park’s main circuit is 3.5 km. Take advantage of the rolling hills and free exercise classes.
A 'runseeing tour' of Panama City’s old city, built in 1673 after pirates destroyed the original settlement. Enjoy the rich history, waterfront views, and fascinating architecture on this 6 km tour.
Run along the historic Panama Canal! There are not many runnable roads/trails in this area, but we’ve mapped a 4 km out and back around the Miraflores Locks.
Some of the best views in Panama City come from the top of Cerro Ancón, a 654 foot hill in city's south end. A run to the summit is 2 km one-way on a paved, car-free road. Steep grades! We've also mapped a longer option.
This 232 hectare space bordering the west part of Panama City is the only Central American tropical forest located within city limits. The park trails are great for running and can be combined for a route of up to 5 km.
There is plenty of trail running in Camino de Cruces and Soberanía national parks. The most popular is the Camino de Cruces trail to the Venta de Cruces ruins, which is 11 km one-way. There are other, shorter options too
Located 17 km southwest of Paris, Versailles is a wealthy suburb known for its historic signing of treaties and stunning Chateau. Here, runners can enjoy the palace grounds, the Meudon Forest, and bike routes to the south in Saclay.
Saint Denis is a former industrial suburb situated 9 km due north of Paris. It’s known for its basilica and football team, but runners can find plenty of routes along the Canal Saint Denis and nearby parks.
On the banks of the Seine southwest of Paris, Issy Les Moulineaux is the heart of the French telecommunication and media industries. It’s also a lovely spot for a run, with a great selection of parks on and around the river.
In these northeast suburbs of Paris, combine a run in La Villete Park with the path along Canal de l’Ourcq, all the way to the grid-like trails of Parc forestier de la Poudrerie. Nearby Bondy Forest is an extensive park.
Saint-Germain-en-Laye is a western suburb of France, and a worth-it destination for a run, between its 3,550 hectare Forest, grand grounds of the The Parc du Сhâteau, and nearby paths along the Seine.
Two great running routes in this wealthy suburb to the west of Paris are the Promenade Jacques Baumel path around an old fortress, and a 'Malmaison' run incorporating two parks, two Châteaus, and forest paths.
The signature route in this commune just west of the city center and across the Seine is the extensive Parc St. Cloud, which features gorgeous gardens, plus great paths and allées for running. Other good spots nearby.
Although Fontainebleau is nearly 60 km southeast of Paris center, runners will enjoy 300 km of marked paths in the massive Fontainebleau Forest, and the opulent grounds of the Château de Fontainebleau at the Forest's eastern end.
This area 20 km south of Paris features numerous parks and green spaces that are great for running. Enjoy a trot along the Orge, the circuit around the Lac Viry-Châtillon, or the Aqueduc de la Vanne mult-use path.
Located 45 km southwest of Paris, Rambouillet is a charming suburb and a wonderfully green area. Great running in the extensive Rambouillet Forest and the grounds of Château du Rambouillet and Gardens.

The best routes in the northern suburbs of London can be found in Camden, Islington, Hackney, Haringey, Barnet, and Enfield.
Some of the best places to run in East London are: Victoria Park/Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park to the Hackney Marshes & Walthamstow Wetlands; Wanstead Park; Greenwich Park & Blackheath; and the Cray Riverway.

The signature running option in Aberdeen is the Esplanade, a 3.7 km asphalt pathway stretching from the North Pier at the mouth of the River Dee to the Donmouth Local Nature Reserve.

The Aberdeenshire Coastal Path is a gorgeous seaside trail run winding atop the bluffs between Nigg Bay and Cove Bay. Run an out and back up to 11.5 km or take the bus for a one-way.
Historic 180 ha park known of its manicured English gardens, and famous for daffodils & snow drops in spring. Our 6.3 km loop uses Hazlehead Ave and Groats Road, and some additional pathways & woodland trails.
In the corridor of a former railway, the Formartine and Buchan Way is a mostly gravel path stretching more than 88 km north from Dyce. It’s 13 km between Dyce and Udny Station.
The Deeside Way is a paved long distance path along the “Old Deeside Way” rail line from Aberdeen all the way out to Ballater. Our guide includes a 17 km straightaway and a 6.6 km loop. Famous for daffodils and snowdrops in spring.
Find great trail running at Kirkhill Forest, Tyrebagger Hill, and Elrick County Park in the northeast of the city. We’ve included an 11 km “lollipop” through Kirkhill.
It’s not a long route, but the wide gravel path around Kincorth Hill is worthwhile for its great views of the Aberdeen skyline. Run some gentle hill repeats on the 2 km route.
Some of Scotland’s most desireable beach running is just north of Aberdeen, starting from Donmouth. Run up to 16 km in one direction and return on the bus, or do an out and back of almost any length.
A lengthy 25 km paved path cuts diagonally through Minsk along the banks of the Svislach River. Highlights include downtown, Victory Park, Gorky Park, and Lošyсki Park. We've mapped the full path, plus a 12 km loop of the central section.
The most popular park for running in Minsk. We’ve mapped a 7 km loop around the perimeter starting from the Belarusian State Museum, but there are multiple options including a free group 5k every Saturday.

An expansive riverside park with numerous asphalt and stone paved paths. A loop around the perimeter of the park is about 4.4 km, but there are numerous extensions. Can connect to other nearby parks using the Velodorozhka.
Due east of the city center, Gorky Park is one of the major green spaces along the Svislach River. One circuit around the park is about 2.3 km, but runners can extend their route by adding interior paths, or with nearby parks/Velodorozhka.
Popular running spot for its many km of stone paved paths that radiate from the center, lined with 22,000 trees. For a longer run, add paths along Slyapyanskaya Waterway to the National Library. Park features a ferris wheel and several historical monuments.
Zialiony Luh Forest Park is one better trail running options near the city. Several single-track dirt paths winding through a lush shady forest. Up to 9 km of paths around the park, with more nearby for add-ons.
A quiet park running option in the north of Minsk. The signature loop here is a 2.5 km stone paved path meandering around the edges of the Drazdy Reservoir and the Svislach River. Can be extended with paths along Svislach Velodorozhka.
Our favorite option for running on Florida’s Space Coast? The beaches! The flat firm sand between Titusville and the Sebastian Inlet offer more than 40 miles of running.
A protected sidewalk enables running over this causeway to enjoy great views of the Indian River. It’s one of the few options for some hill work on the otherwise flat Space Coast. An out and back through the Crane Creek Promenade is 4.5 miles.
A waterfront route along the length of Merritt Island with some great waterfront views and lovely homes. It's 10 miles out and back between Oars and Paddles Park and the Pineda Causeway. Traffic calming measures have mitigated lack of shoulder/sidewalk.
Another good road running route from Cocoa Village to southern Rockledge, Rockledge Drive hugs the coast of the Indian River, exploring beautiful neighborhoods and Historic Cocoa Village.
A 1.25 mile asphalt loop and a mixed terrain 4 mile are the highlights of this 390 acre public preserve, located between Melbourne and Palm Shores.
Some of the best trail running in the Space Coast area begins at the Turkey Creek Sanctuary, and can be extended into Cameron Wildlife Preserve and Malabar Scrub Sanctuary. The paved Boundary Canal Trail is also noteworthy.
The beaches at Sebastian Inlet State Park great for running, with firm, flat sand. There are also several trail options that can be combined for a loop of about 6 miles.
Great trail running in this 2,500 acre preserve located in Titusville. There are 7+ miles of interlinked trails. A loop around the main hiking trail is about 5 miles. Enjoy views of the marshy lakeside and the Spanish moss draped oaks of Moss Point.
Between Palm Shores and Rockledge, this popular wildlife viewing destination is encircled by some 4+ miles of dirt roads, a great spot for a quiet and scenic run. Nice water views and relatively little traffic.
Two states, the Ben Franklin Bridge, Delaware river paths, and tons of history -- all in one run! We've mapped routes incorporating 2.5 miles of waterfront paths on the Philly side & 1 mile in Camden on the NJ side. Run over the Bridge, 1.5 miles each way.
Long linear park path in eastern Philadeplphia follows Pennypack Creek through historic Pennypack Park -- a former gristmill -- for 9 miles. Mainly wooded, with some creek views. An upper section continues for another 7 miles to the Bristol County line.
The Cobbs Creek Trail, a 3.7 mile asphalt path, is a lovely tree lined corridor on the banks of Cobbs Creek.
The top running route in Sapporo, this paved multi use path stretches over 25 km along the Toyohira River. Start from out from or run to Nakajima Park or Makominai Park for the best sections.
The airy public campus of Hokkaido University has a very park-like feel with plenty of runnable paths and sidewalks. We’ve mapped a 7.5 km tour of the highlights, including Gingko Ave. Good winter option!
A long linear park in central Sapporo, this prized green space has a 3 km loop (intersected by several streets), but it makes a nice addition to the Hokkaido University or Toyohira River routes.
Located along the Shinoroshin River in the north of the city, this park is acclaimed for its landscape architecture and sculptures. A full loop around the park is about 10 km.
The paved, well lit paths of Asahiyama Memorial Park lead to a great vista of the city, but there are also miles of trail running around the hills of Mt Moiwa.
More of Sapporo’s best trail running can be found at the sprawling Nopporo Forest Park. There are lots of options, but a circuit around the park perimeter is about 20 km. A trail map shows loop options of various lengths.
This park in west Sapporo is famous for its gravel paths lined with cherry blossoms. There are also connections to dirt singletrack trails leading to some great viewpoints.
The Shin River, and its branches (the Kotonihassamu River & Kotoni River) have paved and dirt pathways along the banks. They are not always the most scenic options, but good for distance. Another route, along the Nakano River in the Teine Ward.
The most popular places to run in Ann Arbor are Gallup Park and the Nichols Arboretum, both of which are located along the Huron River and connected by several multi-use paths.
One of the most attractive neighborhoods in the city is Burns Park, which includes the University of Michigan campus and areas to the south. We’ve mapped a 4.2 mile sample loop, incorporating some of the nicest streets, buildings, and homes.
The largest park in the city, Bird Hills Nature Area has over 5 miles of well-maintained trails with lots of challenging hills. Connect to the Kuebler Langford Nature Area or the Barton Nature Area for more.
A small park in southeast Ann Arbor, County Farm Park is an exercise hub with a 1.4 mile Fitness Trail, 18 strength training stations, and 3+ miles of other paths.
A close-to-the-airport option for those south of the city, the Lohr Textile Greenway is a new 2.5 paved path through the suburbs.
There are some terrific areas for running in the recreation areas north of Ann Arbor, including Hudson Mills Metropark, Waterloo and Pinckney Recreation Areas, Mike Levine Lakelands Trail, and Island Lake Recreation Area. Worth the drive!

A local favorite park along the Neris River, Vingis offers many kilometers of paved paths, including a 5 km perimeter route. The trails are a combination of wooded and some more open trails.
One of the finest routes to run in Vilnius, these waterside paths along the Neris River add up to more than 10 km (one way) and connect many of the city’s choice parks.
Add together the panoramic vistas of Kalnų Park and the gorgeous botanical gardens of Bernadine Park for a pleasant tour of downtown Vilnius’ prized green spaces. We've mapped a 4 km loop highlighting both parks, or create your own!
At 2,673 hectares, this huge park to the north of Vilnius has a running route to suit every need. Our favorite options are loops around the Vilnius Palace grounds and a tour of the Green Lakes.
Pavilnių Regional Park is a great space for its many gravel paths along the Vilnia River, including the historic and scenic 5 km Pūčkoriai Cognitive Trail. Combination of wooded and open.
As an alternative to Verkiai Regional Park, there are some other great green spaces in the suburbs north of Vilnius. Check out the forests and lakes of Šeškinės šlaitų geomorfologinis draustinis, run laps at Ozo Park, or hit the pavement at Jomanto Park.
Hop on the train to Trakai for this 7.5 km tour of the island and its stunning waterfront castles. The waterside paths and sidewalks leading around Lake Galvė to the Trakai Peninsula Castle and Trakai Island Castle are quiet, scenic, and well-maintained.
We’ve mapped a 15 km sightseeing run from Old Delhi to Connaught Place, on some of the nicer city sidewalks and park paths. Go early to avoid traffic and crowds.

One of the best bets for a long park run, Jahanpanah City Forest is a scenic respite from the city, with non-technical routes of up to 7 km.
Nature lovers will delight in a run through Sanjay Van, where easy dirt trails form a figure eight loop of about 4 km.
There are multiple options for a run around Siri Fort and Hauz Khas. Either pay the entry fee to jog the track at the Sports Complex, enjoy the trails of Panchsheel Park, or tour the hip streets of the Hauz Khas neighborhood, including a lake loop at Deer Park.
The purportedly haunted Malcha Mahal has lots of trail running and easy connections to other paths and parks in the Central Ridge Reserve Forest.
Swarn Jayanti, also known as Japanese Park, is the go-to running option in the north of the city. Stone paved paths circle the park for about 4.6 km.
A lovely manicured park with a short cement jogging track. A good place to run laps and hang out for those in Gurgaon.

One of the best road running options around New Delhi, Gurgaon-Faridabad Road is a good spot for a long distance run or some hill training. Go early in the morning before traffic gets too busy. This won't make anyone's 'most scenic run' list.
A good option in North Delhi, Bonta Park (the Kamla Nehru Ridge Park) has nearly 8 km of stone paved and dirt trails. Highlights along the way include the Mutiny Memorial spire and the Flagstaff Tower.
Explore the sprawling lawns and well-kempt paths of Maanik Park, which surrounds the stunning white washed floral architecture of the Lotus Temple. Loops up to 3.5 km, with longer options.
Our favorite running options in Gurugram (aka Gurgaon), a city just south of New Delhi, are the lovely Aravali Biodiversity Park and the jogging trails at Leisure Valley Park and Tau Devilal Biodiversity Park.
Noida is a planned city across the Yamuna River, southeast of New Delhi. The best running options include in include a 1.3 km gravel jogging track around the Noida Cricket Stadium, and a beautiful stretch along the Okhla Bird Sanctuary and Gautam Buddha Park.
Just 3 km from Nairobi’s Central Business District, the Nairobi Arboretum is a great central running location, with well-maintained trails and lots of opportunities for viewing native flora and fauna.
Two popular city parks in the center of Nairobi, Uhuru and Central Parks can be combined for loops up to 3.6 km. Interior paths make for multiple length options and great views of the city skyline. Can combine w/Arboretum run.
The beloved running spot for locals, this escape just north of the city is full of smooth and rolling dirt forest roads. The Kenyan Forest Service, which maintains the park, has mapped out 5, 10, and 15 km routes.
Get your hill training in at the Ngong Hills Nature Reserve, where runners can jog across the Great Rift on a dirt road with great views for up to 22 km out and back. It's not technical but there are some steep sections.
On the west end of Nairobi, the Ngong Forest Sanctuary is home to several scenic trail running options. Favorites include the 5 km perimeter loop and the trail from the Dagoretti Police Station.
This affluent area of north Nairobi features kilometers of nice sidewalks past gardens and impressive homes, but runners can also escape to the villages and coffee fields on the outskirts of the neighborhood.
Another fantastic neighborhood for running in Nairobi, the Karen/Langata area roads with good sidewalks, some nice homes, and some quieter more rural roads as well. The 5 km Oloolua Nature Trail in the area is great for a trail run.
The signature route in Little Rock, with miles of riverside running on a mostly car-free, multi-use trail. Highlights include good river views, numerous parks, and the Clinton and Big Dam Bridges. The north bank has more dedicated, scenic sections.
Two Rivers Park is located along the west end of the Arkansas River Trail, but it’s a noteworthy running location on its own. Miles of other trails wind through this green space at the confluence of the Arkansas and Little Maumette Rivers.
This large park in the Hillcrest/Riverdale area has both paved and dirt trails looping through its grounds. Knoop Park and several nearby nearby streets lined with upper-class homes make great add-ons.
The gridlike streets of the trendy Heights neighborhood make for a nice residential run around the Country Club. Can be combined with nearby routes in Allsopp Park/Hillcrest.
Run the trails of this large state park, which range from easygoing paved loops to a challenging ascent to the 1,031 foot summit of Pinnacle Mountain. The Base Trail is a rocky, but relatively flat 3-mile loop.
A hidden gem of a trail which is easily accessible from many hotels in west Little Rock, the partially paved, mostly gravel Rock Creek Trail is a pleasant 3 mile out and back.
Pick any neighborhood in this section of Little Rock to run through quiet culs-de-sacs featuring grand houses. Chenal Valley Drive is a 5.6 km, sidewalked loop around the country club, and some of the other major streets also have long, runnable sidewalks.
The University of Arkansas at Little Rock is a relatively small campus, but the surrounding neighborhoods feature some great roads and trails for running, including Coleman Creek, Boyle Park, and War Memorial Park.
The 13-mile Heritage Trail is a paved/crush limestone multi-use path that follows the former Erie Railroad rail line through New York’s Orange County, between Middletown and Harriman. Especially nice in fall!
The Tour de Bourgogne à Vélo is a vast network of long-distance, multi-use paths along Burgundy's rivers and canals. We've mapped six of these paths across the region, which can be used as a great resource for a run in the area!
The commune of Chalon Sur Saône rests on the banks of the Saône River, where a number of waterfront paths and picturesque bridges create plenty of opportunities for running.
We’ve mapped a 3.7 km circuit along the outskirts of downtown, starting from the riverfront and heading counter-clockwise.

The team at Beaune Tourism highly recommends this quiet, scenic road running option about 20 km west of Beaune. The “Roman Road” through the Cossane Valley features an ivy-covered aqueduct, riverbanks, and a scenic plateau.
The wine village of Pernand-Vergelesses is dotted with classic French architecture, vineyards, and carefully crafted monuments, all of which can be explored on this ~6 km loop around Corton Hill.
Puligny-Montracet and Chassagne-Montracet together make up a famous wine region, and runners will find a delightful 8 km route through the vineyards here.
The stunning Chateau and its grounds date back to the 15th century. A loop around the building and lakes is only about 3 km, but it’s a gorgeous spot to run some laps.
Runners can catch glimpses of the Abbey by doing a 3 km tour of the city walls. Also, good running on the Vois Verte, a lovely multi-use path passing through Cluny in its 70 km between Chalon-sur-Saône and Mâcon.

Running options in the heart of wine country include multi-use paths, scenic roads, and the Bartholomew Park Winery's trails. Good trail running at Sonoma Overlook Trail, Sonoma Valley Regional Park, and Jack London State Park.
The county seat of Santa Rosa has plenty of running options, from bike paths like the Joe Rodota and West County Regional Trails to gorgeous state parks such as Trione-Annadel, Foothill, and the Armstrong Redwoods.
The "egg-basket" of Petaluma is famous for its chickens and foodie culture, but there is also plenty of running in this riverfront town, from the scenic expanses of Helen Putnam and Shollenberger Parks, to the many sidewalks and bike paths along Lynch Creek.

Watch boats bob in the bay from this scenic gravel path along the coast and around Egå Marina. The trail stretches south to Åkrogen Strandpark and north to Skæring Beach where it connects with the Skoødstrup Trail.
Runners can find a 1500 meter track as well as 2, 3, and 5 km marked routes throughout the green knolls of Marienlyst park. Connect to the paths around Aarhus University Hospital and the Countryside Route for longer runs.
Follow the Laurel Trail through the center of Tranbjerg J village. This short but sweet 5k is marked with red signposts, and is a pleasant quick option in this suburb southwest of Aarhus and accessible via light rail.
A roughly 5 km (one way) route from the Skødstrup Church to Kaløvig harbor marina, this combination of bike paths, service roads, and pedestrian walkways is a nice quiet tour of Aarhus’ less populated suburbs.
The favorite running route in Yokohama, the bayside parks and promenades of Minato Mirai offer scenic views of the waterfront and its futuristic architecture. We’ve mapped 5k and 10 km routes, but there are lots of options for variation.
Shin-Yokohama, a large park right outside the station of the same name, has great running paths around Nissan Stadium and the surrounding fields, with easy connections to the Tsurumi River and canal paths.
The best option for a long distance run in Yokohama is the paved bike path along the Tsurumi River. Although it is interrupted by many street intersections, it goes on for over 21 km to the Onda River.
Another seaside green space along the south coast of the city, beachy Marine Park and the nearby Nokima Park and Yokohama Sea Paradise theme park offer up to 6.3 km of paths.
A former race horse venue, Negishi Shinrin Park has maintained the 1.5 km circuit around the grassy fields and orchards, making this a perfect space for a quick run or laps.
Perhaps the most popular island for tourists in Greece, picturesque Santorini has great running along the Kamari and Perissa Beach boardwalks, but the crown jewel is the path between Fira and Oia, which is more of a trail run.
The best running on the lively, well-known island of Mykonos is right along the waterfront of Mykonos town. End at the Windmills of Kato Milli for a scenic treat. Also some good running on some scenic coastal and interior roads.
Crete, the largest of the Greek Islands, has three major cities with shoreline promenades as well as 320 km of the cross-Europe E4 Trail. Also a nice trail run in Plakias.
In addition to some great waterfront sidewalks, the island of Rhodes has some of the most unique historic running in the Greek Islands, with the trail along the former Old Town moat.
The popular Ionian Islands destination of Corfu offers plenty of running along its waterfront as well as a great cross-island path for trail running.
In Paros, the best place to run in a waterfront tour of Parikia Bay. In Antiparos, there's some good waterfront running as well, and a run from the Chapel of Saint Marina to Sifneikos Beach.
The best places to run on Naxos are along the waterfront in the main city of Chora, several great beaches for running on the southwest coast, along interior farm roads, and several routes and through villages featuring historic churches, temples, and ancient ruins.
This lengthy dirt path along is pleasant itself for a run of up 20 km one-way, and also connects to a 3.5 km loop on paved paths at Emmarentia Dam/Johannesburg Botanical Gardens, and a 5k dirt loop around Delta Park.
There is lovely neighborhood running in the Parkview area, especially along Westcliff Drive. Combine this great sidewalk with a loop around peaceful Zoo Lake and a jaunt up the challenging Westcliff Stairs for a unique ~8 km out and back.
During non-golf hours, the Randpark Golf Club opens its facilities to runners, offering 3, 5, and 8 km loops. Free, secure, and open for night running (BYO lighting). There are also fitness classes on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
A favorite for trail running in Krugersdorp, King’s Kloof features well-marked 7, 14, 17, 20, and 22 km loops across varied terrain including jeep roads and dirt singletrack. Grab a map at the kiosk and bring plenty of water.
The paved and dirt trails/roads surrounding the “Cradle of Humankind,” named a UNESCO World Heritage site for the numerous hominid fossils found here, are popular with runners and cyclists. We’ve mapped a 5 km route commonly used for races.
Run through the “Jewel of the South,” a 640 hectare nature reserve 10 km south of the city center. Popular running options include the 12 km Wildlife Loop and the Thaba mountain biking trails.
Though officially a cycling venue, the PwC Bike Park invites trail runners to explore the 13 km of dirt trails at their space in Bryanston. A day trail running pass in R20.
Enjoy a 5 km loop on a flat dirt path at the Bosque El Tequio, a sprawling forest "sports" park with over 7,500 arboreal species over its 65 hectares. Keep an eye out for running events held here.
Use the paved bike lane along Avenida Ferrocarril for a nice long run. Can go as far as 9 km to the Arbol del Tule, a tourist attraction believed to be the widest tree in the world.
The free facilities at Polideportivo Venustiano Carranza, a few blocks east of downtown, include a 1 km trail around the complex (with paved and dirt options) and a 400 meter rubberized track.
This park in downtown Oaxaca is small, but there is a 700 meter circuit on stone paved paths, and plenty of vendors and people-watching to keep things interesting. Connect to other downtown attractions on nice nearby sidewalks.
Run the banks of the Rio Atoyac on this short but tranquil dirt path close to the center of Oaxaca. Loop and out and back options of about 4 km.
A tranquil (but secluded) escape from downtown Oaxaca, this abandoned freeway is closed to traffic and popular for scenic long, distance runs in the Oaxacan hills. NOTE: Signs warn to not to bring valuables and to travel with a friend.
A challenging run with fantastic views over the city, Cerro del Fortin is a popular local exercise spot complete with stairs, hill climbs, and quiet trails.

Some of the most lovely paths in Cartegena are the promenades lining the marina neighborhoods of Getsemani and Manga. Great manicured parks, bridges, and waterfront views!
Starting from the lively beaches of Bocagrande, this sidewalk reaches north along the Old Town seawall to Playa Marbella. At several points, runners can spice up the terrain by dropping down to the sandy beaches.
A run through the ritzy high rises of Castillogrande culminates with a stretch on a well kempt waterfront path. Peninsula loop is 3 km, but can be combined with the Bocagrande route for a 7.25 km loop.
Run along the “murallas” of the “City of Walls” and enjoy the historic sites of Old Town on this roughly 5 km tour.
Cartagena is a haven for beach running, with long stretches of flat, hard packed sand. Our top picks include Playa Bocagrande, Playa Marbella, and Playa La Boquilla.
Waterfront parks, manicured promenades, and lengthy sidewalks facilitate great runs along the banks of the Estuary of Bilbao. We’ve mapped an 8 km central loop, with longer route options to Zorrotza and Porugalete. Option for subway back!
This route from our friends at Go! Running Tours uses the bustling sidewalks and central parks of downtown Bilbao to form a 3.4 km looping tour of “new” Bilbao.
Some of the top running options in Bilbao are along the “Green Ring,” a 44 km loop connecting the city’s urban and forest parks. Use the Green Line in the attached trail map. We especially like the routes near Monte Avril, Pagasarri, and Artxanda.

As one of the larger parks in Bilbao, Europa Parkea is a nice off-road running choice. A perimeter loop is 2 km, but there are multiple interior paths for a longer run.
With the help of our friends at Running Tours Bilbao, we’ve mapped out longer runs around the historic sites of Old Town/Casco Viejo.
Old Town Wrocław is historic, compact, and pedestrian friendly, making it a great running location to explore the sights of the city. Our 6.8 and 13 km routes visit Market Square, parks, and waterfront paths.
There are multiple running paths along the River Oder, which cuts through central Wroclaw. Some of the best options begin at Wyspa Słodowa Park and Park Biskupiński, which also hosts a Parkrun.
Sprawling Szczytnicki Park offers numerous running paths, including a 5.7 km perimeter loop and stretches along the beautiful Japanese Gardens and Multimedia Fountain.
The paths along Fosa Miejska, Wroclaw’s former moat, make up a pleasant greenway of up to 5 km out and back. Other good loop options in the park include Powale and bulwar Tadka Jasinskiego.
Stara Odra, a branch of the River Oder, is another top running option with extensive pathways along the levee. We’ve mapped a “Three Bridges” route from the center of town, and one along the Pasterska/Hatzfeld Weg pathway.
Kanalowa, the dirt trail along the banks of Kanal Powodziowy, is a nice route as an out and back of its own or in combination with the Odra River and Stara Odra paths. A good loop is out the Kanalowa and back along the Folwarczna.
Though somewhat disconnected in sections, the path along the west bank of the Ślęza River, stemming from Millennium Park, is a good bet for a longer run on a dirt and asphalt surface.
Pleasant, wooded Grabiszynski Park southwest of Wroclaw center has various running options, including a paved/cement path along the Grabiszynska and connections to the Ślęza River and path to Tysiąclecia Park.
See the top sites in Riga’s historic center with this 7 km tour of parks, architecture, and the path along the Daugava River. Due to its central location, this course easily links to other routes.
Explore Riga’s former moat, the Pilsētas kanāls, with this loop around four of the city’s most central parks: the Esplanade, Kronvalda, Bastejkalns, and Vērmane Garden.
A scenic run on the stone paved path offering water views and sights including Riga Castle, the and the TV Tower. East Bank is 3.2 km between Vanšu Bridge and A8 Bridge. West Bank add-on is 3.2 km, includes National Library.
Though the monuments at Victory Park are controversial among locals, this wide open space can be combined with the paths of Arkādijas park to the south for loops up to 4 km.
One part park, one part incredible residential neighborhood for summer homes, Mežaparks offers miles upon miles of quiet paved paths for running. A loop around is about 6 km.
Head west from Riga on this paved, 13 km multi-use path to the beach town of Jūrmala. Options to extend route into downtown Jūrmala. Run as an out and back or take the train one-way.
Over the past decade or so, rehab and renovation projects have really revitalized the The Barrios Altos. This running route from Running Tours Bilbao is an exploration of both history and modern life.
Run the grounds of Stuttgart’s old palace at the “Schlossgarten,” a collection of three manicured parks in the heart of the city. Routes up to 7 km can be combined with the Neckar River and Rosenstein Park runs.
An iconic path along Stuttgart’s main river system, this 367 km paved route includes a scenic loop around the Max-Eyth-See in Hofen.
Rosenstein Park abuts the Zoo & Botanical Garden with a paved loop around Rosenstein Palace and Lion’s Gate. Connect to Wartberg Park & Höhenpark Killesberg, or the Castle Gardens & Neckar River paths.
The sprawling Rotwildpark reserve just west of the city include numerous trails such as a 5 km waterfront loop around the Barensee (Bear Lakes).
Enjoy some of the best views in Stuttgart from this run to the top of the Fernsehturm Stuttgart TV Tower on Hoher Bopser. 6.5 km of hard packed dirt trail with plenty of add on opportunities. Oval running track located in the area!
A 5 km on a stone paved pathway, the pastoral Schimmelhüttenweg is a 5 km out and back path through the Degerlocher Scharrenberg vineyard. Great views of the city from the vineyards surrounding the historic site of the Weissenburg Castle.
Follow the spiraling incline to the top of “Rubble Mountain” for fantastic views of the city and a look at a collection of historic remnants from WWII. 5 km out and back with lots of additions.
The course of Parkrun loops through Kräherwald Park, a hilly forested ridge with numerous trail running options. Start from MTV Stuttgart and run the 5 km course or a longer loop.
Run the highlights of the Rösslesweg, a more than 50 km loop around the Stuttgart hillside. The best sections include Bad Cannstatt to Untertuerkheim and the Birkenkopf.
See the city’s top tourist attractions, from the namesake baths, to the historic residential “crescents,” and the stunning Royal Victoria gardens. Our ~7 km route begins and ends from Pulteney Bridge.
The former Bristol and Bath Railway still connects the two cities with a paved, 15-mile multi-use path. The 4-5 miles at the Bath end run along the River Avon, then passes through several suburbs.
A celebrated towpath along the Kennet and Avon Canal, this route out of downtown Bath continues north to Bathampton and points beyond. We highly recommend the section from Bath to the Sydney Gardens.
As its name suggests, this rural multi-use pathway includes two tunnels. One is over 1.6 km long with interactive light and sound features. The entire route is up to 9 km one way.
Enjoy historic sites and lovely views of Bath from the hills encircling the city on this 10 km loop through meadows and woodlands. Other options include a Parkrun and connections to the Kennet and Avon Canal Towpaths.
Take on one of the top hills in Bath with one of two streets surrounding the Entry Hill Golf Course. A round trip from Bear Flat is about 4 km.
The Cotswold Way is one of the UK’s “National Trails,” a 100+ mile pathway through the countryside from Bath to Chipping Camden. A nice out and back from the city is from Bath Abbey to Kelston Round Hill.

Hendricks Park is the oldest park in Eugene, featuring incredible rhododendron gardens and miles of paved and dirt paths, including access to the 12 mile Ridgeline Trail.
This stunning arboretum just a few minutes from town is brimming with paths, from easy rambles to steep climbs up the mountain. A favorite route is an 8 mile loop around the base of Pisgah.
An asphalt and concrete path reaching 6 miles from Westmoreland City Park to Meadowlark Prairie Reserve. The nicest part is the west end, where runners can extend their run to Fern Ridge Reservoir.
Springfield’s Dorris Ranch is a “Living History Farm” and one of the most popular access points for the 4 mile paved Middle Fork bike path, which runs east to Clearwater Park. Numerous other paths in the Springfield area.
Some of the best trail running in Oregon is on the 24+ mile McKenzie River Trail, about an hour’s drive from Eugene. Relatively flat and very scenic.
The best neighborhoods for running in Eugene include Laurel Hill, Amazon, and the area surrounding the University of Oregon. Mostly DIY options on grid-like streets. Try to persuade U of Oregon folks to reopen Hayward Field to the public!
This large park in the heart of Quito features an 8 km (5 mile) stone and gravel road looping through trees, with great views of Pichincha Volcano. Run it on its own or combine with Parque La Carolina.

For visitors to the south end of Quito, the 750 hectare Parque Metropolitano del Sur is a sprawling and beautiful option for a run of any length. The main dirt and stone-paved path is a 12 km out and back.

The Liberty Lake neighborhood just east of Spokane is a great area for running. Enjoy the pleasant residential neighborhood, or a more challenging 8.5 mile trail run through Liberty Lake Regional Park.
This 4 mile route is a nice sightseeing tour of downtown Flagstaff and Northern Arizona University, featuring street art, commercial areas, and residences.
The FUTS network boasts over 50 miles of multi-use paths across the city. Highlights including Sinclair Wash and Thorpe Park, both of which are scenic and have options for a flat or hillier run.
Buffalo Park is one of the best running routes in Flagstaff, with two miles of wide, easy-going dirt trail and great views from the top of McMillan Mesa. Combination of open grasslands and woods. Good options to add on.
The best pavement running option in Flagstaff is scenic Lake Mary Road, which goes on for well over 50 miles. The most scenic section is the 5 mile stretch along Lake Mary, located about 13 miles south of town.
A quiet dirt road with lots of rolling hills remains open and plowed in wintry weather. Most runners do an out and back from the Arboretum at Flagstaff.
Flagstaff has amazing trail running around every corner, but some of the favorite routes start out from the Schultz Creek and Schultz Tank Trailheads. Lots of variety here -- and some good hills if desired!
The best beaches for running on the island of Puerto Rico, with long distances and firm compact sand.
A wonderful coastal run in Cataño, at the south end of San Juan Bay. Combination boardwalk and asphalt paths make up the 1 mile long malecón along Ocean Drive. Can be extended on nearby sidewalks. A great 5k out and back.
A long multi-use asphalt pathway along the river Bayamón, ending at the Ensenada de Boca Vieja (bay). Very pretty, as most of the path is through a beautifully manicured linear park. Up to 5.5 miles one-way, though options for shorter distances.
This national park in Bayamón features a good variety for running. There are easygoing, wide dirt paths that make for a good ~2 mile loop, and some additional technical singletrack trails that are more challenging.
In the Cerro Gordo National Park area near Dorado, there's great running on the paths of the Cerro Gordo Mountain Bike Trail and on the firm sands of Cerro Gordo Beach.
The cement walkway/boardwalk along Avenida Victor Rojas in Arecibo on Puerto Rico's northern coast offers stunning ocean views. It's nearly 2 miles between the bridge over the Río Grande to the point of Obrero. A great spot for a sunset run.
Great water views in this run between Jobos Beach and Punta Sardina, along Isabela's beaches. Combination of good shoulder on Route 466, bike lane, and Paseo Tablado de Isabela (boardwalk). Up to 8.4 miles out and back.
A low-key trail running spot stretches from the Villa Montana resorts to the gorgeous sands of Survival Beach. This area is in the northwest corner of the island, not far from Isabela.
One of the longest and most beautiful promenades in Puerto Rico is the Paseo Real Marina de Aguadilla.
There are some nice running options in Mayagüez, on Puerto Rico's west coast. The Paseo del Litoral along the coast, the University of Puerto Rico campus, the Parque Lineal, and Parque de Los Próceres.
Cool long distance running in the mountains of inland Cayey can be found in the village of Jájome, a popular local training spot. We've mapped 8.3 miles between Guayama and Cayey, along the scenic PR-15 road. Hilly!
Varied running options on the destination island of Vieques. The best places include Route 200, Sun Bay, Esperanza, the Puerto Ferro Lighthouse, and Punta Arenas. Nice combination of beach, trails, quiet roads.
These rural roads surrounding a former military base on Puerto Rico's east coast are mostly out-of-use, making this a great spot for a longer run on paved, untrafficked roads. Can easily put together 8+ miles. Recommended to run in groups.
The crown jewel of running in Tulsa is the River Park trail system, with about 15 miles of trails on both banks of the Arkansas River. Highlights include a fitness station and the innovative “Gathering Place” park on the east bank.
Trail runners will delight at the 300 acre Turkey Mountain Urban Wilderness Area, with miles of scenic dirt singletrack and several loop options. Located on the west side of the river paths at 71st St.
Some of the grandest and most historic homes in Tulsa lie within the Riverview District just south of downtown. We’ve created a 2.4 mile tour of the highlights, but most streets in the area have runnable sidewalks.
The walkable residential neighborhoods of Midtown make for a nice sidewalk run, whether it’s the hip cafes and vintage stores of Cherry Street, the pretty waterfront homes of Swan Lake, or the extravagant architecture of Maple Ridge.
This popular 5k route traces the circumference of LaFortune Park on a paved and crushed stone surface. The park is 8 miles southeast of downtown Tulsa, and has numerous recreational and fitness facilities.
The Creek Turnpike, Mingo, and Liberty Trails are paved multi-use paths covering more than 20 miles through the south end of the city. They might not be the most scenic, but are a good opportunity to get in some long off-road miles.

At 2,800 acres, Mohawk Park has plenty of open space for a run. There are about 10 miles of paved roads, a multi-use path, and several nature trails.
In the Three Forks area, (30 miles northwest of Bozeman), the Headwaters Trail System consists of 12 miles of paved trails running to both the Headwaters State Park and the Jefferson River. Great views of the surrounding mountains and grasslands, ponds and old growth cottonwood trees.
The waterfront trails of Lake Hefner and Lake Overholser are the most popular running areas in Oklahoma City. Run around either lake, or connect the lakes on the Hefner-Overholser trail for distances up to 18 miles.
The Oklahoma River Trail and West River Trail cover more than 17 miles on the banks of the North Canadian River. We’ve mapped a 9.5 mile loop route on the north and south banks, as well as several ancillary/access trails that stem off the main River Trail.

A pleasant neighborhood to the north of downtown, Nichols Hill features a roughly 1 mile linear park as well as quiet residential streets with grand homes.
Some of the most historic and scenic streets in Oklahoma City can be found in the Heritage Hills and Mesta Park neighborhoods, which boast large trees, beautiful mansions, and a grid-like street system perfect for a DIY run.

Great running options in the city of Edmond (just north of OKC) include Mitch Park, the Eagle Trail of Oklahoma Christian University, and the quiet stretches of Sooner and Douglas Roads.
Best places to run in Providenciales include sandy Grace Bay Beach, the long sidewalk along Grace Bay Road, roads around the Venetian Road Settlement, and several quiet, dirt roads in the west side of Provo.
Run some of the roads around the Cockburntown waterfront, or take scenic Lighthouse Road for 5 km to the historic Grand Turk Lighthouse.
Choose from the grid-like roads around Cockburn Harbour or set out on the long 7 km road along the north peninsula of South Caicos.
There is really only one road across North and Middle Caicos, but it's a pleasant spot for a long run of up to 53 km.
Centrally located along the resort-laced Seven Mile Beach in Georgetown, West Bay Road is the choice running spot of locals and tourist alike in the Cayman Islands. Wide sidewalk and occasional coastal views. Up to 8.7 km one-way.
A long, safe sand run along a beach that stretches for nearly 7 km. The sand is not especially firm for running, and is best near low tide. Good access from the numerous resorts that line the beach
A lovely set of quiet side streets is the Yacht Club Development just off Esterly Tibbetts Highway, opposite the Safehaven neighborhood on the north side of Governors Creek. Lovely homes and water views. More in & outs along the Quays.
The minimally-trafficked roads around the Safehaven neighborhood, surrounding the North Sound Golf Club, form a 5 km out and back. Nice home and water views. A good alternative to the busier West Bay Rd.
This new road has a fresh lane for cycling and pedestrian traffic, so this 9.6 km stretch is a good choice for anyone trying to fit a longer run onto this small island.
This brand-new paved boardwalk near the Cayman Crossing neighborhood is calling runners to the south shore of Georgetown, with its unparalleled coastal views. The boardwalk is 1,500 feet, but South Sand Rd. stretches for 4.5 km.
The ocean views are incredible on this 5 km (one way) stretch of road near Barefoot Beach on the quieter eastern end of the island. One of the most scenic spots for a run in the Caymans.
This 5.5 km out and back takes runners from Rum Point, past Bioluminescent Bay, and out to the tip of Starfish Point for quiet roads and lovely waterfront views.

The quiet island of Cayman Brac is not as frequently visited by tourists as the other Cayman Islands, but visitors can find multiple options for a run around its scenic bluff.
The best runs in the capital of Fort de France include the airport area, Parcours Sante du Morne Cabri, the waterfront, and Canal Levassor.

La Caravelle Peninsula is considered one most beautiful areas of Martinique. There is great running along the D2 where it turns to dirt, or an 8 km trail run through the Caravelle Nature Reserve.
The best beach running in Costa Rica is along the Pacific coast of the Nicoya peninsula, where flat compact sand stretches for miles of beautiful oceanfront.
Best places to run in Costa Rica's vibrant capital include the beautiful running trails of La Sabana and La Paz parks, the University of Costa Rica Campus, and the elegant metropolitan neighborhoods of Santa Ana and Escazú.
One of the liveliest towns in Puntarenas, known for its great nightlife and high-octane adventure tourism. Good running options here are the 4.75 km Jaco Beach, and a quiet road at the southern end of Playa Hermosa that goes for 5+ km.
One of the top tourist destinations in Costa Rica. Head for a lush run on the area's numerous flat, well maintained trails, including the Heliconias Trail and the paved Peninsula trail which runs along Lake Arenal. Enjoy a post-run hot springs soak!
Routes in the Quepos/Manuel Antonio National Park area include a sidewalked roadway, the Quepos boardwalk, Espadilla Beach, and trails within the park.
A splendid road run from the village of Santa Elena to the famous Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. Other runs include trails in Monteverde Reserve and Curi-Cancha Reserve (set hours & admission required).

Run the commercial/resort area along Gloucester Ave, a 2.6 km sidewalk past restaurants, galleries, and shops of Montego Bay.
The "Elegant Corridor” is a coastal area east of the airport home to numerous resorts and golf courses. There's decent running on the lit sidewalk along the main A1 road for nearly 8 km, from Ironshore to near the Rose Hall Great House.
The “One Love Trail” in Ocho Rios is a paved seaside walkway with great views, stretching 4.9 km from the cruise ship pier to beautiful Dunn’s River Falls. A great 10k out and back and one of the prettiest runs on the island.
The best bet for a long beach run in Jamaica. Though the sand is soft and sugary, many runners use the Seven Mile Beach to log distance. An alternative is the walking/cyling lane along Norman Manley Boulevard.
The “Holy Grail” of running in Kingston. A hard dirt path of 2.6 km loops around this dark green reservoir, with views of Kingston city and the Blue Mountains as a backdrop. As an add-on, run the Usain Bolt Track at the Univ. of the West Indies.
This beautiful park in downtown Kingston has a designated 500 meter paved jogging track lined with lawns, trees, and gardens.
Run segments of the famous Jake’s Off-Road Triathlon in Jamaica’s pastoral south coast town of Treasure Beach. Options include a 7.5 km out and back to Great Bay, or an 11 km loop heading out to the base of Big Groun’ hill.
A stone-paved walkway along the spit of land between the Harbour View neighborhood and Port Royal makes for a nice run, with great views of Bull Bay to the south and Kingston Harbour to the north.
A small park in Kingston, the National Heroes Circle is a good place to run laps while learning about the country’s history and culture.

Covering the northwest coast of the island, Aruba’s Sightseeing Path stretches for about 13 km out and back from the Palm Beach area to the scenic California Lighthouse. Great water views!
A lovely, brick paved path that runs between the airport in Oranjestad and the cruise ship terminal. Lined with trees for shade and offers easy access to the beach and main sights of downtown. There are plans to expand the trail to Palm Beach.

Loved for its diverse ecology and Civil War history, Blakeley State Park has over 16 miles of trails, including a paved ~9 mile bike path loop.
Search for alligators in the creek below this cool boardwalk section of the Eastern Shore Trail. It's a quick 2.5 mile (4 km) out and back. It's part of the longer Eastern Shore Trail, parts of which are nice for running.
Bordering the edge of the downtown airport, the 1.8 mile Airport Perimeter Trail runs from Doyle Park to Bayfront Road. Can be extended to Alligator Bayou via the Crepe Myrtle Trail, which follows Bayfront Rd. for 5.6 miles. Nice water views!
Take a day trip to Dauphin Island to run pristine white sand beaches or the paved bike path along Bienville Boulevard. Long, flat, and beach-y with classic water, sand, and beach shack views. 30 miles south of Mobile.
These long twin bike paths run from the Massachusetts border to Long Island Sound. Access paved routes from Simsbury, Avon, Collinsville, Unionville, Plainville, and Southington. The River Trail branches off the Heritage Trail for 16 miles.
Run the Litchfield Hills charming namesake town through the town green, main strip, residential streets, and the locally famous, leg crushing, Gallows Lane hill. We've mapped 3.6 and 6.8 mile options.
This enormous parcel of conservation land right in Litchfield is the go-to training zone for cross country running, with 39 miles of paths. Nice variety of terrain from forested to open to lakes. Trail running options range all abilities.
Run across the scenic dam and around the reservoir that provides water to Hartford on paved sidewalks and dirt access roads. We've mapped a 3.8 mile out and back run, but there are other trails and roads good for running in the area.

Lining the banks of the Shepaug River, Washington’s Steep Rock Preserve is trail running heaven. There's something for everyone here. We recommend the Steep Rock Loop trail out to the scenic suspension bridge and railroad tunnel.

Delco, the small county to the south of Philadelphia, sits along the Delaware River. Highlights include the John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge, Ridley Creek Park, and the course of the Media 5 Mile Race. There is also loads of trail running here.
Chester County, one of the original three Pennsylvania counties, is a tony area west of Philadelphia and Delaware counties. This historic spot is marked by rail trails, beautiful parks, and high-end residential neighborhoods.
This northeastern border to Philadelphia is another of Pennsylvania’s original counties. Includes running along the Delaware Canal Towpath, around Lake Galena, and scenic Tyler State Park.
Two good running options in Bridgeport: Seaside Park, with a scenic, 5 mile out and back path along Long Island Sound; and the Pequonnock River Trail, a mult-use path that runs for 14 miles from Bridgeport through Trumbull and Monroe.

The upscale Ross Bridge neighborhood, home to the Ross Bridge 8k, is a beautifully sidewalked collection of grand houses. Run the 2.7 mile (4.3 km) Ross Bridge Greenway or the intimate streets and culs de sac of the estates.
Not only are the Birmingham Botanical Gardens are great place to spot blossoms in bloom, running is encouraged on the 2 miles of paths throughout the grounds.
Red Mountain Park, just 15 minutes from downtown Birmingham, is a dream come true for outdoor enthusiasts. There are 15 miles of trails. Two recs are the flat 2.4 mile BMRR South Trail or the more challenging 2.9 mile Ike Maston Trail.
Oak Mountain State Park is considered some of the best trail running in North America. Popular trails include the 2.3 mile multi-use Lake Trail and the 2 mile route to Peavine Falls.
Another top running destination in the Hoover area, Moss Rock Preserve boasts 12 miles of trails — including both challenging singletrack and easygoing dirt roads.
A developing rail trail in Helena, a bit southwest of the city center, the Hillsboro Trail offers about 2 miles (one way) of running on a smooth asphalt surface.
This 82 acre park in Hoover has a couple of different running options, including a 5 km cross country running trail and a 2 km designated walking/running trail around the perimeter of the park.

A waterfront park on an island in the O River, Nakanoshima Park features gardens, skyline views, and plenty of opportunity to extend your run.

Tsurumi Ryokuchi Park, or “Citizen’s Rest,” is an extensive botanical garden with a 4.5 km promenade around the park.
This is a favorite "home route" of the Kaizuka Running Club, located along the waterfront of Kaizuka city about 40 minutes south of downtown Osaka. 5 km.
Run through former Worlds Fair grounds in this 264 hectare park with beautiful gardens. A perimeter of the park is 5k, but there are also good interior options. There are numerous museums, a Japanese Garden, and other sites.
A perfect waterfront sunset run near the Kansai Airport in Izumisano City. Multiple options, including ~7 km or ~11 km routes along mainly waterfront paths.
This 42-mile multi-use path spans from Herron Park in Aspen northwest to Two Rivers Park in Glenwoods Springs. A favorite section in Aspen is 8.4 miles from Woody Creek to Herron Park, which has views of Aspen Mountain and the Roaring Fork River.
7-mile out and back on a popular multi-use trail along the Roaring Fork River. Highlights include wildlife viewing at the North Star Nature Preserve. One of the flatter running opportunities in Aspen. Combination paved and gravel.
Nearly 6 miles of uninterrupted pavement running through scenic farmland, Snowmass Village to Aspen Mountain/Buttermilk. One of the better non trail running options in the area.
A 5 mile out and back on a concrete path, starting at the Airport/Aspen Business Center. Loop with other multi use paths for more mileage.
Steep Aspen Mountain offers wonderful trail running opportunities. On the lower mountain, the 2-mile out and back Ajax Trail is a good intermediate option. Or, take the gondola to the summit and run the 2.4 mile East Rim/Cherry Hill Loop.
This dirt Forest Service road stretches 6.3 miles out to the Warren Lakes. For a shorter run, do a 2.9 out and back to the Smuggler Mountain Overlook.
A more challenging trail run, spanning across Red Mountain. As much as 10 miles out and back, although a good 6-mile out and back option is possible. Highlight is the section through aspen groves -- especially pretty in autumn!
The tough and hilly 7-mile Hunter Creek Trail is a popular running route for its proximity to town and fantastic views of the Elk Mountain Range. The first 3 miles are especially popular for jogging -- but still challenging!
This rocky 1.8 mile trail winds through aspen fields and rock gardens before descending to Crater Lake and a beautiful vista of the Maroon Bells. Beautiful, but runners should note the rocky footing.

While there are miles of parks and riverside paths to choose from in Hamburg, perhaps the best waterside and park running in Hamburg is through the hilly Blankenese “stair district”, west of the city.
The 6 km loop around Ragunan Zoo is one of the most popular routes in the city, featuring over 200 animal species and some impressive exotic trees and plants.
During the week, Sudirman Road is jammed with traffic, but on Sunday mornings during car-free hours (6 am-11 am) the big boulevard turns into a great place to run.
The tracks around the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium are very popular with runners on weekday mornings. It's a good option for those working or staying in the Surdiman Rd. area and the Convention Center.
The National Monument is surrounded by an 80 hectare park, one of the largest city parks in Asia, which includes shaded running paths. A loop around the perimeter is 4.2 km.
This popular recreation area includes well-maintained tracks through eco-parks and a seaside promenade which goes all the way from Indah Beach to Carnaval Beach. At 8 km, this is one of the longest off-road runs in Jakarta.
A lush, recently renovated 3.5 acre park with good options for a short, flat run. A loop around is 1 km.

The University of Virginia is the heart of Charlottesville, and the Jeffersonian architecture of its beautiful grounds makes for a wonderful run of any length. We have several mapped routes, ranging from 3 to 7 miles.
The Rivanna Trail encircles Charlotteville for about 20 miles, covering prime ground on the banks of the Rivanna River and through a series of city parks. Paved and dirt trail sections.

Just off the Thomas Jefferson Parkway, the Saunders Monticello Trail is a 4 mile (out and back) run leading around Carter Mountain to Monticello.
The 7.5 mile hilly gravel sprawl of Dick Woods is something of a legend among Charlottesville area runners.
This beautiful 4.5 mile paved road leads to the Sugar Hollow Reservoir and dam, the scenic doorway to the Ragged Mountain Natural Area.
This paved 2.25 mile route circles one of the most prestigious residential areas in Charlottesville. Can be combined with the Sugar Hollow route or the Rivanna Trail for more mileage.
A series of scenic dirt roads through a quiet oasis of farmland just south of the city. 7 mile loop.
Preddy Creek Trail Park occupies 521 relatively flat but beautiful acres. A full loop around the main trail system is about 3.5 miles, but runners can easily add on mileage by exploring cross paths and extensions.
The Manila Baywalk along Roxas Boulevard is the most popular running spot in Manila, with a 1.6 km brick and cement path along the coastline. Good water views along this coconut-lined path. Video excerpts!
This great boardwalk by the Mall of Asia follows the waterline past a variety of shops, restaurants, hotels, and a carnivalesque amusement park. 1.2 km one-way, with an ability to continue along Coral Way for another 1 km.
Run as the University students do at the University of Manila’s Academic Oval, a 2.3 km loop of separate bike and pedestrian lanes. The streets are entirely closed to traffic on Sundays.
One of the best neighborhoods for running in Manila, affluent Bonifacio Global City is a safe and scenic neighborhood with good green spaces. Run around Fort Bonifacio, Bonifacio High Street and the 1.2 km Bonifacio Global City Greenway.
Luneta is one of the largest parks in Manila. With a long linear path through monuments, gardens, and museums, it’s a great park for a few 2 km loops.
Several adjacent spots in Quezon city that can run separately or combined for a longer run: 2 km Quezon Cicle loop; paths in the Veterans Memorial Golf Course; and lagoon paths in Ninoy Park.
Heritage Park is actually a cemetery, but it’s a popular running spot for its flat paved paths, where you can easily run 2 miles or more.
This popular shopping area has a wide, runnable sidewalk where runners can put in multiple laps. On Sundays, the entire street is closed to car traffic.
Avoid the traffic by taking your run to one of Manila’s many public tracks, which are scattered conveniently throughout the city.
The most popular routes in Lima are along the Malecón (boardwalk) which stretches along Costa Verde, Miraflores, and south to Herradura in two roughly 5 mile sections.

Some gorgeous residential neighborhoods for running, including Oak Park, Fort Sheridian, Clarendon Hills, Buffalo Grove, and the Olmsted-designed Riverside.
Forest Preserves aren’t the only natural spaces for running in Chicagoland. These other parks have great trail systems for escaping the city to run on dirt or sand.
Just north of Rehoboth Beach, in Lewes, runners can hop on the Georgetown-Lewes Trail. It’s currently 7.6 miles of paved path between Lewes and Milton. Can do in conjunction with Cape Henlopen State Park.
In an effort to promote citywide recreation, Bogota closes 76 miles of main streets to car traffic every Sunday and holiday from 7 am until 2 pm. We've recommended a few sections that are a particular treat to run.
In recent years, Bogota has invested significant funds in the rehabilitation and reconstruction of public spaces, including over 300 km of runnable bike paths. These Ciclorutas offer a 'runnable' bike path from nearly anywhere in the city.
This narrow linear park between Calle 87 and Calle 89 in the Chapinero neighborhood of Bogota runs along the green El Virrey creek corridor. A full circuit is about 1.4 km (.8 miles).
Parque Simón Bolívar is the largest, and usually the most crowded park in Bogota. It’s popular among runners for its large network of trails, ranging from hilly dirt trails to long paved flats.
This community center in the Suba region of Bogota is relatively small, but it does have a 1 km (.6 miles) long designated jogging track.
Another small but locally popular park, San Andres is a go-to exercise destination in the northwest of Bogota. Includes a .7 km (.4 miles) crushed rock jogging path.
A hilly 6.4 km road run just outside Bogota, the ascenso de Patios is a favorite of locals seeking a longer run.

The city of West Hartford is an up and coming suburb, known for its elegant neighborhoods and hip shopping centers. Public improvement projects have recently amped up streets, sidewalks, and lighting, making for a great commercial/residential runs.
Run a section of the 60+ mile Metacomet Trail in Penwood State Park. This hilly but scenic 6 mile out and back includes views of a lake and a vista from a traprock ledge.
This 1.7-mile self guided tour of downtown Asheville’s architecture, history, and art, covers some of the hippest streets in town, all on spacious sidewalks.
Spanning from French Broad River Park through Carrier Park and ending at Hominy Creek River Park, the French Broad River Greenway is a 2.7 mile asphalt multi-use path following Asheville’s most major river.
The Montford Historic District of northwest Asheville is a great choice for a tour of some of Asheville's prettiest streets and homes. Starting from the Asheville Visitors Center, an out and back is about 3 miles. Add or vary using side streets.
A 3.8 mile paved out and back follows Reed Creek from Pine Points to the University of North Carolina Asheville campus and botanical gardens.
This lovely jogging trail forms a part-asphalt, part-dirt loop around Beaver Lake and the surrounding neighborhood. Nice water and mountain views.
This beautiful chateau, with gardens and grounds designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, has over 22 miles of trails spread over 8,000 acres lining the French Broad River and surrounding forests. Note: Set hours and very steep admission fee required.
This top outdoor destination in Asheville has a variety of trails from easy to challenging, including a series of dirt Forest Service Roads. Start at the North Carolina Arboretum or Lake Powhatan Recreation Area. Part of the Pisgah National Forest.
The 5 mile out and back of Warren Wilson College’s River Trail covers pastoral meadows and farmland with lots of swimming opportunities. Add on with a jaunt around the pretty campus of this small liberal arts college.
A 1 mile jogging loop around shady Fletcher Community Park, can be combined with the Cane Creek Greenway for more mileage. There is also outdoor exercise equipment for strength training.
A challenging trail run in this area 30 miles south of Asheville. The 10 mile loop up Black Mountain features incredible views of Pisgah National Forest. Popular with mountain bikers, too.

The Saddle River County Park Bike Path is a 7.5 mile (one-way) paved path along the Saddle River and the former railroad.
The cornerstone of the massive TART network, this 10.5 mile multi-use trail cuts across downtown Traverse City with great views of the West Bay. We’ve mapped a 5 mile out and back along the most scenic section, with an add-on along the Boardman Lake Trail.
Traverse City’s long peninsula, which juts into Grand Traverse Bay, is a beautiful spot for a road run along the waterfront. Choose from East Shore Drive and Bluff Road on the east side, or Peninsula Drive on the west side. Great cherry blossom spot!
These former hospital grounds turned public activity and recreation area have 140 acres of unpaved trails behind Building 50. Runners can create a DIY route of about 2.5 miles on these wooded paths.

This well-groomed dirt doubletrack through Michigan State Forest has 3k, 5k, 10k, or 25k loop options, all starting from the same trailhead in Williamsburg. Good trail running options for multiple abilities.
Quiet wilderness trails around Lake Ann and the Platte River. 3.4 mile and 5-mile circuit options start from the trailhead off Reynolds Road.
The incredibly scenic Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is a don’t miss destination. Out of the many trails here, the best for running is the Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail. We’ve mapped 7 miles out of the 20 mile multi-use path.
The 8-mile loop run along the shores of car-free Mackinac Island is a must-do, passing beautiful lake vistas, rock formations, and historic buildings of the port area. Accessible by ferry from Mackinaw City. Lots of interior trails on the island as well. Famous for laurels in May.
Quiet lakeside nature preserve with shady forests and trails through the dunes. The best locations for a run are the paths from Green Point Dunes to the Beach and the Overlook Trail at Arcadia Dunes.
Home to the Charlevoix Half/Full Marathon, this paved, multi-use path runs for 26 miles between Charlevoix and Harbor Springs. The most scenic section is the ~3 miles along Little Traverse Bay from Michigan Shores State Park past the Loeb Nature Preserve.

Close to the raucous resort area of Phuket, this beach has a festive — if somewhat crowded — vibe. Sand conditions are great for running, and it’s possible to travel about 2.6 km one way.
While still a tourist beach, Karon is less developed than Patong, and the 3 km (one way) of sand here has great running conditions. Sidewalks bordering the beach are also runnable.
Shorter than other west coast beaches, but scenic with great runnable sand. 1.6 km can be extended via a connection to Karon Beach.
Over 5 km of pristine sands further north along the west coast of Phuket, becoming more remote the further north you travel out to Kala Point. The beach is the main running option here, as there's no road alongside.
At over 13 km, this is one of the longest stretches of uninterrupted beach on Phuket, bordering the airport and Sirinat Natural Park.
The shady, traffic-free jungle roads around this reservoir are a go-to exercise destination for locals. 4 km (6.4 miles).

A short hill run up to a shop and restaurant lined terrace overlooking the coast of Phuket Town. 4 km round trip.
A favorite hill run up to one of Phuket’s top tourist attractions, with great views of Chalong Bay. 9 km round trip, or catch a ride down the hill. This is a challenging hill run, gaining 1,100 feet over 4.5 km, average 8% grade.
This loop around a manmade reservoir is a nice respite from the crowds, and is nearly perfect for 5 km training, with lots of options to extend your route.
Great run from Patong Beach to the hills above Paradise Beach. A sidewalk winds most of the way up the hilly and narrow road. Paradise Beach is a great reward for this challenging 11.5 km out and back.
A challenging, hilly route outside of Patong, with great views from the heights near Kalim Hill. 6.5 km of this 11 km loop are around Kalim Hill, with a 2 km very steep section. The remaining 4.5 km are on the flat 4233 road along the beach.
This 5 km loop around the center of Reykjavik hits many of the most popular tourist destinations in the city, starting at Tjörnin, the pond at the heart of the city.
This route around the Reykjavik harbor area is one of the most scenic runs in the city, and it utilizes a pedestrian friendly-path spanning over 5 km (3 miles) along the waterfront.
The picturesque jut of the Seltjarnarnes Peninsula is a popular stop for birdwatchers, visitors to the Grótta lighthouse, and sunset seekers, but runners will love the 7.4 km (4.6 mile) loop around this seaside path.
This gorgeous river valley, not far from central Reykjavik, is one of the best kept secrets of the city. Known by locals as the 'Powerade Circle', the 10k route goes around 2 valleys, with the Elliðaá river running through it.
With mild weather and many bike paths, the Fossvogur neighborhood is one of the most popular running spots in Reykjavik. Choose from a 5.6 km route or a longer 11.7 km loop through coastal Kopavogur.

A spectacularly scenic coastal route. This section of the East Coast Trail footpath runs from the village of Blackhead out to the Cape Spear Lighthouse, for nearly 9 km out and back. A fairly challenging, hilly trail.
A pleasant 3k loop around Long Pond on a gravel path, just north of Memorial University. For a longer run, combine with loops around Kents Pond and Kennys Pond Park, connected via walking paths.

A hiking loop around Table Top Mountain through basalt boulders & red rocks to panoramic views from the Tabletop Plateau. Officially called the Airport Loop Trail, this well-worn, marked 3.3 mile loop makes for a good hike/walk/run.
Explore Sedona’s various architectural styles with this 4 mile loop through West Sedona’s neighborhood streets. Relatively light traffic and good desert views.
This 8.5 mile paved loop ends in a tough hill climb. Starts with a short section of trail and continues on the road shoulder. Nice views of Red Rock State Park.

A 'runseeing' tour of Old Strasbourg. Follow this route over cobblestone streets, bridges, and architecturally significant plazas. 3 km (1.8 miles) total.
This is a straightforward, ‘square’ loop of some of Strasbourg’s ‘Quais’, which are paths along the canals and the Bassin des Ramparts. The paths skirt the perimeter of the Parc de l’Orangerie and other parks and gardens.
The scenic green space surrounding Strasbourg’s historic citadel is not the longest run in the city, but it’s a good quick option from the University or the Esplanade neighborhood.
This canal towpath turned tarmac bike path runs for 28 km along the water with gorgeous views of greenery and farmland. Run as far as you like and turn around. Also possible to run one way and catch a bus back.
The Jardin des Deux Rives, or Two Shores Garden, spans over the Rhine River from Strasbourg, France to Kehl, Germany. Our route between the two countries is about 6 km (3.7 miles).
About 5 northeast of Strasbourg, there are lovely paths behind the Château de Pourtalès, a gorgeous 18th-century mansion. One can put together about 3 miles exploring the woodsy paths and shady lawns of the Parc de Pourtalès.

The wide paved sidewalk along Beach Ave has great views of the ocean and prime beachfront properties. An out and back from one end to the other is 4 miles.
The homes of Cape May are considered one of the largest collections of 19th century architecture in the country. They're all in a compact area, so we've designed a neat 2-mile run on the best 'Victorian' streets. Combibe with Beach Ave. for more mileage and architecture.
This route traces the wide shoulders of Sunset Boulevard out to Sunset Beach, and then a jaunt down Lighthouse Ave around Cape May Point, home to the scenic Cape May Lighthouse. Pleasant, quiet, scenic.
For a taste of pristine Cape May, set away from the boardwalk crowds, set out for a short (up to 3.3 mile) loop on the trails and boardwalks of Cape May Point State Park.
A classic Jersey Shore boardwalk, and a treat for running. The concrete and wood boardwalk follows the coast 3+ miles from near Wildwood Crest to North Wildwood. Good ocean views and festive atmosphere. Wildwood Beach, at 4+ miles, is also great for running.
The Cold Spring Bike Path is a 2.75 mile paved route which spans from Seashore Road in Erma to Sandman Boulevard in Cape May. Solid inland route, offering good shade on a hot day. A favorite day trip for visiting runners is to run to the Cape May Winery.
Beginning near the zoo in Cape May Courthouse, the Middle Township Bike Path continues south for about 6 miles towards Rio Grande. You can also do a 5k cross country loop through the zoo grounds.
Though it can be busy at peak hours, the old fashioned boardwalk in Ocean City is a fun and festive route, stretching 2.5 miles along the beachfront.
The 5-plus mile Ocean City Bike Path spans across the bridges of the Rainbow Channel with great views of the island speckled coast.
At 25 miles, the cement paved Keystone Trail is one of the longest and most popular paths in the Omaha area. It runs along Papillion Creek until joining with the Bellevue Loop Trail near the Missouri River.
One of the most scenic and enjoyable runs in Omaha, featuring the fountains of Heartland of America Park, views of the Missouri River, and the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge -- the longest footbridge connecting two states!
Zorinsky Lake, in the west of Omaha, has a 7.4 mile paved route circling the lake. This route can also be shortened to 4.5 miles by crossing over the 168th Street Bridge.
Across the river in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the Wabash Trace Trail is a flat limestone trail that runs over 60 miles all the way to the Missouri border. From the north trailhead to Mineola is 9.6 miles one-way.
Standing Bear Lake, 10 miles northwest of the city center, is home to a 5 mile concrete path wrapping around the reservoir.
Chalco Hills Recreation Area is one of the top spots in Omaha for athletics and wildlife viewing. There are 7 miles of trails, including a 5.7 mile dirt and paved path around Wehrspann Lake. One of the better spots in the area for hill work.
Bordering the Big Papillion Creek for nearly 10 miles, the Big Papio Trail starts in Hefflinger Park and runs south to Seymour Smith Park where it connects with the Keystone Trail.
The 13.25 mile West Papio Trail, which runs from Huntington Park to Papillion, is considered one of the most scenic running routes in Omaha.
This large reservoir in north central Omaha has numerous dirt and asphalt paths. Our route covers the 6.7 mile trajectory of the Feast and Feathers Thanksgiving race.
A great 5 mile run, meandering through Memorial park and the Omaha Rose Garden, Elmwood Park, and the University of Nebraska campus (north and south). Enjoy this trail on its own or as an add-on to the Keystone Trail.
Another gem of nearby Council Bluffs, Iowa, Lake Manawa is a large property of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources with several miles of asphalt trail for biking and running. The Lake Manawa bike path is 6 miles one way.
South Bend, a town bordering the Platte River just south of Omaha, has numerous great running spots: the 15-mile MoPac Trail, and trail running in Platte River State Park, & Schramm Park State Recreation Area.
This 5.3 km 'runseeing' tour covers some of the city's most important highlights, from gorgeous buildings, museums, river bridges, and some more modern sections. Good add-on opportunities.
The miles of concrete paths lining the banks of the Ljubljanica river offer a multitude of opportunities for running around Ljubljana. We've created a 4.3 km loop in Old Town area, and a 7.3 km loop further east, which is more pastoral.
At 5 square kilometers, Tivoli Park is the largest park in Ljubljana — a refreshing sprawl of green space right in the city center.
Locally known as the Trail Along the Wire or the POT, the Path of Remembrance and Comradeship is a 35-kilometer path marking where the city perimeter was fenced off during World War II occupation.
Castle Hill is a wonderful 1.9 mile (3 km) history tour of medieval Ljubljana complete with challenging hill work. It is easily accessed from the city center. The climb is 557 feet over less than 1 mile, with grades up to 8%, but the views are rewarding!
The Golovec Hill is the large mound to the southeast of downtown Ljubljana, home to several km of hilly, dirt trails looking back on the city. We've designed a 7.3 km loop, but there are other options for longer/shorter. Hilly.
Spanning 11 miles across the Anchorage coastline, the Tony Knowles Trail is a well loved paved path with great views. Best Sections include Earthquake Park and Kincaid Park.
One of the easiest and most accessible runs in Anchorage is the flat, 4-mile Chester Creek Trail, a paved path from Westchester Lagoon to Goose Lake. Protected greenbelt, through some residential neighborhoods, surrounded by forests and public parks.
This relatively flat, roughly 4-mile loop utilizes the non-motorized trails around the Lake Hood seaplane base, just outside of the Anchorage airport. A unique run with seaplanes taking off and landing while doing a scenic route.
The Powerline Pass (in case you had any illusions) is a 14-mile beat-up dirt service road where wires stretch over the Chugach Mountains to Anchorage. A wide, well-maintained track for a cross-country outing.
Another popular route in Chugach State Park is the Turnagain Arm Trail, which curls along the waterfront of the Turnagain Arm for 9.5 miles. Hilly. Great views, and one of the first trails to melt come spring.
Easily accessible from midtown Anchorage, Far North Bicentennial Park is a great choice for a simplified trail run close to town. The go-to trails for runners are the Hillside Cross Country Trails.
With Campbell Creek Park as its center piece, the 7.5 mile Campbell Creek Trail follows its namesake waterway from the University of Alaska Anchorage campus southwest towards Campbell Lake.
This 2.8 mile paved path is another crucial element to Anchorage’s urban trail system. It stretches from the Mountain View Neighborhood in the east all the way to Alaska Railroad Depot.
This 6.2 mile circuit on the gravel paths and paved streets around the University of Wisconsin Arboretum is the most popular spot to run in all of Madison. Great training for a 10 km!
Combines the Howard Temin and Lake Mendota paths for a 4-mile scenic lakefront run between Observatory Hill and Frautschi Poin, passing through UW campus. Combination of open & wooded, with great views from Picnic Point!
This large lake to the south of Madison is one of the top local destinations for a run of any length, whether it’s a quick 3 mile jog around the bay, or a long 11 mile loop along the entirety of the lake.
One of the best bike paths in the Madison area, this 17-mile route winds through the forests and prairies of southern Madison and its suburbs. The 6-mile section from Capital Springs State Recreation area to Gunflint Park is great for running.
A fun route combining the vibrant State St. commercial district, Capitol Square, and the adjacent Mansion Hill Historic District, with it historic homes & buildings. Add with nearbny UW campus & lake trails.
A fun 5-miler in the downtown area connecting two lakes using a combination of multi-use paths and residential side streets. Park-like for much of it, with some lake views.
A hilly route through one of Madison’s nicest neighborhoods, this 3 mile run along the banks of Lake Mendota is a beautiful tour of the local waterfront properties.
Located on the west banks of Lake Mendota, this is a taste of the Wisconsin natural environment, not too far from the city. The main loop plus Frederick’s Hill overlook is ~4 miles. Mainly wooden boardwalks over marshes and gravel trails through grassy prairies.
This 40 mile asphalt and crushed limestone trail is a former military marching route which connects Madison to Dodgeville in the west. One of the coolest sections to explore is where the path passes through Blue Mound State Park (about an hour outside the city).
This 52 mile rail trail starts in Cottage Grove (11 miles east of Madison) and runs east all the way to Waukesha (just outside of Milwaukee). One of the most interesting sections is near Lake Mills and Korth Park. Trail map with segment distances.
Adventure seekers looking for a challenging trail run just outside Madison should look no further than the Devil’s Lake Loop, an hour northeast of Madison in Baraboo. The best trail for running is the 6.2 mile loop around the lake.
A 3-mile tour of some of the prettiest and most historic streets of Nantucket's Downtown Historic District and the center area. Lots of opportunities to add on. Downtown can get crowded in high season, so best to do that section early.
This route is home to a fun and free 5k which takes place every Tuesday evening from March to September. Starts just north of the Historic District, near Children's Beach. Quintessential Nantucket neighborhoods and pleasant streets for running.
Nantucket Conservation Foundation property located near Madaket in the southwest of the island is a favorite off-road running option. Grassland, shrubland, and pine forest. A long dirt road leads for 2.5 miles to the ocean, or shorter, grassy trail loops.
The 780 acre Sanford Farm property is popular for its scenery, sandy trails, and ocean breezes. We’ve mapped 7 mile and 3.5 mile options.
2.5 mile paved path runs along Hummock Pond Road out to Cisco Beach, slides right past Cisco Brewers! Mostly rural, wooded landscape, punctuated by a few impressive homes and lots of farms. End your run with a brew or a swim!
Nantucket’s north shore is largely protected from dramatic ocean currents, which means the sand here is flatter and firmer than most other beaches. You can run west on Jetties Beach for about 1.5 miles.
Siasconset, known as ‘Sconset to locals, hugs the high eastern crest of the island, where grand homes look out over even grander ocean views. This 3 mile route leads from downtown ‘Sconset to the Sankaty Light.
There's plenty of beach on Nantucket, but this is one of the most 'runnable'. The 1 mile stretch of Nantucket Beach in the Tom Nevers area of the island is protected and relatively flat, making for a good 2-mile beach run.
Middle Moors is a celebration of Nantucket’s open space. This 6.5 mile loop runs alongside cranberry bogs, past ponds, and up to Altar Rock — one of the highest points on the island — on dirt roads and trails. Also site of a popular 5k race course.
A tour of some of the city’s most historic and architecturally intriguing sites, all while offering great views of the Neva River from it’s bridges and embankment paths. Most of the route is along wide riverside paths. Includes a tour of the Peter and Paul Fortress.
Tucked away on its own island northwest of St. Petersburg but accessible via transport, the sprawling green space of Tsentral'nyy Park is surrounded by the mouth of the Neva River on all sides. One loop around is 5 km. Other adjoining islands are good add-ons.
With wide dirt paths through foggy forests and hidden lakes, running in Sosnovka feels a bit like a fairytale. This 302 hectare park north of the city center is one of the largest green spaces in St. Petersburg. It's 7 km around the perimeter, with many interior paths.
Though it requires a little more travel from the center of St. Petersburg than some of our other routes, Kolpino is a unique park on the Chukhonka peninsula. Our map follows the same route as the Parkrun series. 2 loops is a 5 km.
A 4.8 km (3 mile) loop around some of Moscow’s top sites, from the Alexander Gardens, to Red Square and the Kremlin, to Christ the Church Cathedral and back to Red Square. The ~1 km of trails in the spectacular new Zaradye Park is a great add-on.
Probably the most popular area for running in Moscow, Gorky Park is a wide open space which connects to the scenic Moskva River Embankments. We've put together a River Embankment route, but it's also possible to enjoy 2-3 km around the park's paths.
Good running in the Presnensky, Moscow's business district. A 7.5 km loop along the river and some green spaces, with views of some of Moscow’s coolest modern buildings, including the Imperial Tower and the World Trade/business district.
One of the largest green spaces in Moscow, with long straight, tree-lined paved paths radiating out from the park's center. You can trace a “fan” on these paths, or enjoy other alleys and paths crisscrossing the park. Can easily put together 10 km or more.
Web of trails to the northwest of downtown provides endless combinations for a running ramble around the Moscow Canal & surrounding lakes. A gentler 4.4 loop around the lakes and Administration area, or more rugged options for trail runners.
The 2.4 kms of paths along the river Göta Älv are the top choice when it comes to running in Gothenburg, and a great way to get across the city without leaving the waterside.
The centerpiece of a 1.5 km greenbelt along Gothenburg’s central canal, and is a delightful jewel of greenery in the heart of the city. The park is situated between the water and the Nya allén road. Good add-on options.
Located just southwest of the city center, Slottsskogen park is home to miles of tarmac paths that are great for a peaceful park run. A loop around the park is about 2.5 miles (4 km).

This route utilizes the Lindholmsallen Path through the center of the district, then wraps around the waterfront, where you can watch the ferries come and go. The loop is 3 km, or 6 km if you add the lovely waterfront path in Eriksberg.

The run to Pirita, the neighborhood to the northeast of Tallinn, is notable for its great views of the Tallinn Bay from the 4 km (one-way) waterfront path.

Krakowski Błonia is a large triangular park set against the banks of the Radawa river in the western part of the city. Combined with neighboring Park Jordana, you can get in a solid 3.5 miles along the park’s perimeter.
Tucked amid the office buildings in the east of the city, Park Lotników Polskich (Polish Airmen Park) is another of the largest green spaces in the city, and it’s possible to put in well over 2 miles on its labyrinth of cement paths.

From anywhere in the east end of Colorado Springs, the best bet is the Shooks Run Trail, which is a flat, paved four miles one way.

The 3.3 mile Osborn Homestead Loop is a travel back in time to a historic Colorado homestead, built in the early 1900s by the Earl Osborn family. Many other trails in this 5,000 acre park, 30 miles from Colorado Springs.
For a challenging trail run just outside of Colorado Springs, the Iron Mountain/Intemann Trail in Manitou Springs is a tough 7.5 mile option.
The Broadmoor area of Colorado Springs is a nice deviation from the typical trail running of Colorado Springs. The most runnable street is a straight shot down Lake Ave from Broadmoor Town Center to The Broadmoor Hotel.

This run in Virgin Islands National Park is a bit off the beaten path, but it’s an interesting course which mixes paved roads, paths, and waterfront views. Francis Bay Trail is 6 km out and back, or 7.5 km when combined with the Johnny Horn Trail.
Trails in the USVI can be steep and rocky, but this 2.6 mile out and back route in Virgin Islands National Park from Cruz Bay up to Honeymoon Beach is one of the most runnable trails on St. John, and features great views.
A perfect course for anyone staying at or near the St. John Westin, Great Cruz Bay Road is a two mile (3.5 km) roller coaster of a paved street running along the rocky peninsula between Cruz Bay and Chocolate Hole.
The breezy 1.2 mile stretch along the Long Bay Waterfront is a rare opportunity to break away from the trails and narrow streets of the USVI and run along a nice paved walk which caters exclusively to pedestrians.
Magen's Bay is arguably the best beach for running on St. Thomas. About 1.5 miles (2.4 km) out and back on quite runnable sand, with a concrete path/road along the beach as an option.
Town on the northern shore of St. Croix that offers some interesting history and some good running options. Run in town, around the National Historic Site, up the Christinansted Bypass road to an overlook with great views.
The Buccaneer Golf Course, in the Shoys area of St. Croix, may seem exclusive and inaccessible, but it is home to a public jogging track where runners can get in a good, and hilly 4 miles (6.4 km) away from the busy, narrow roads.
Located on the western end of St. Croix, the “Freedom City” of Frederiksted is a sleepy port town with a rich history and a fabulous 1 mile (1.6 km) long waterfront walkway, a pier, and a quiet road to Sandy Point Refuge.
One of the best runs in San Juan. Follow the Passeo del Morro, beautiful seaside promenade, out to the Fort and a National Historic Site. Do a little tour there, and then enjoy some of the narrow streets of Old San Juan.
The area around the Condado Peninsula, where Ashford Ave. connects Old San Juan with the remainder of the city via a gorgeous bridge, is a treat for running. Short option out to fort and back, longer option is lagoon loop.
A public adjacent to the Puerto Rico Supreme Court, features a variety of walkways where you can piece together~2 miles of off-street running. Combine with Ashford Avenue run to Condado, and the lagoon loop for a 5-6 miler.
If you’re located closer on the east side of the bay, you can run along the 2.2 mile path following the Martin Pena canal to the Parque Central del San Juan. A pleasant run along two parks, with good water views.
The six mile paved/wooden bike route of the Tablado de Piñones boardwalk is one of your best chances for a long distance run uninterrupted by cars.
The best beach for a run in San Juan. Just east of Punta el Medio, it goes for 0.7 miles. Combine with the Tablado de Piñones path and linear park, for a longer run.
For beach running in close proximity to downtown and the airport, Último Trolley is a great choice. Nearby Parque Barbosa also has paved paths and a track.
East of San Juan, this linear park in Carolina offers a nice running track and pretty green paths stretching along the canal to the Children’s Museum.
The Nassau waterfront offers some nice running, with good water views. A paved walkway runs between Malcolm’s Park and the Harbour Bay Marina. Can also run northeast out to Smugglers Beach, 7.5 miles round-trip.
For a longer run along the Nassau waterfront, another good choice is West Bay Street, which curves around the north side of the island right near town. It’s one of the few streets on the island with an adequate sidewalk.
Conveniently located alongside the resort strip in Baha Mar, Cable Beach offers a two and a half mile stretch of white sand bordering the crystalline waters of Nassau Island’s north shore.
Locals will tell you the Malecón is pretty much the only running option in Havana, and it is by far your best choice. This cement walkway stretches for 8 km along the seawall from Old Havana in the east to the ritzy Miramar neighborhood in the west.
In a roughly three mile (5 km) tour of Old Havana, you can see many of the top tourist attractions in the area.
One of the most scenic runs on Kauai, this 4.2 mile coastal path on the island's eastern 'Coconut Coast' area connects Waipouli Beach and Paliku Beach. An easy trail, with spectacular water views. There's a shorter southern section, with plans to connect them.
Kauai is known for its beaches, so don’t miss a chance for a fantastic beach run at Hanalei Bay — one of the flattest and firmest stretches of sand on the island. Starting from Hanalei Pier you can wrap around the half-moon shaped beach for about 1.6 miles.
A great running option for those staying in the busy Princeville area. A pleasant 2.5 mile bike path runs along Ka Haku Road between the Shopping Center and the St. Regis Hotel in downtown Princeville. Slight downhill heading west.
With the Wai Koa Loop Trail as a center point, there are multiple routes radiating out from central Kilauea: The Kahiliholo Rd. up Kalihiwai Ridge or the Kilauea Rd. out to the Kilauea Lighthouse are two great running options.
A good street run on Kauai’s north shore. 5-mile out and back from the Princeville Shopping Center. Not too trafficked as you enjoy the sprawling estates and lush farms bordering the Wildlife Sanctuary. Can add on with Powerline Rd.
10-mile non maintained dirt road makes for a long, challenging running route skirting the island's interior forest preserves. The Powerline Trail runs from the north shore between Hanalei and Princeville to the upper east side of Wailua.
The Mahaulepu Heritage Trail, known locally as the “beach walk” runs about two and a half miles along the coast from Shipwreck Beach up to Punahoa Point, and is a good option for anyone wanting to avoid running on Poipu streets.
This area hugging the south coast is a good option for runners situated in the hotels in Poipu. A 3-mile route from Poipu Beach to Spouting Horn Park has good water views. The roads surrounding the gold courses are also good for running.
Kehaka Beach, on the west side of the island, is one of the longest stretches of white sand beach in the entire state of Hawaii. You can head west and enjoy a long beach run or run east along Kaumualii Highway.
Among the most popular running spots on the whole Big Island. Wonderful ocean views most of the way, with a wide shoulder safe for running. Up to 7 miles south, the last two miles are hilly.
The red dirt Mana Road runs for over 40 miles heading out towards Mauna Kea volcano. Great views on this less trafficked road, which starts 2 miles west of Waimea Center. Hilly. Best bet is first 6 miles, near Waimea.
If you’re located near Hilo, on the eastern side of the island, the primo running spot is the beautiful Hilo bayfront, 3-5 miles of waterfront, including a 2 mile loop running under the shade of huge Banyan trees.
A solid two miles of sandy beach in the Hawaii Ocean Science and Technology Park near the airport. You can extend your mileage on the paved streets of the Natural Energy Lab or the trails of Kaloko-Honokohau National Historical Park.
A 6-mile, hilly out and back. Popular route for walking, jogging, biking along a less-trafficked road in the Holualoa area. Gains elevation until the turnaround point at Mile 3, then it’s a fun and fast downhill.

One of the largest swaths of white sand beach on Hawaii, and your best bet for a run on the sand. Combine with the Coastal Trail along the bluffs path to Mauna Key, for a fabulous 2.8 mile out and back.
The 8 km promenade alongside Dubai’s Marina is one of the most scenic runs in Dubai, with towering skyscrapers lining the paved path on one side, and turquoise waters and yachts on the other.
The coastline of the Jumeirah Corniche is the ideal spot for a long waterfront run, much of it with on-beach running tracks. Good stretches are nearly 10 km from Umm Suqeim Park to the Dubai Zoo, almost all of it on tracks.
Dubai Creek Park, tucked into the northern bend of the river between the hospital and the Hyatt, includes a 4 km circuit loop around the beautifully landscaped park.
Spectacular run around the waterfront edge of this palm shaped, man-made resort center of Dubai which juts into the harbor between the Marina and Al Sufouh Beach. You can run 11 km along The Crescent, or 2.7 km on the 'trunk' in Al Ittihad Park.
The most popular designated running track in Dubai, Al Barsha has a spongy 1500m running surface around a nicely landscaped pond.
The 2.5 km track around the perimeter of Al Safa park, on the south side of Dubai Creek, is popular among local running groups.
Zabeel Park has plenty of walking paths and fitness equipment, but the best route is undoubtedly the designating jogging track which encircles the park in 2.5 km lap.
The signature run in Doha. Promenade along the Gulf with dramatic water and skyline views. It's 5 km from the Sheraton Hotel Park to the Museum of Islamic Art, with add-ons out to the port or another 1.5 km to the Qatar National Museum.
Aspire Park is your best option for a park run in Doha, with its own set of designated running trails (the longest loop about 5 km) around Aspire Lake.
The looping 1 km running track in Oxygen Park may be short, but as it dips through tunnels, up hills, and under the glowing balloon lights, it adds an element of surprise and excitement to your run.
An artificial island, built as a rounded neck jutting out into the waters just north of Doha. Good running out to Bahriya Beach, along sidewalk following Pearl Blvd. and Porto Arabia Drive. Can also run along narrow path to Isola Dana.
For a truly one of a kind running experience, you may want to consider heading out to the red sands of the desert, about an hour outside the city.
This is one of the most popular paths on Maui. Not only is it a gorgeous beachfront walkway with an easy flat surface, it starts just around the corner from several resorts.
Kahului, tucked into the north side of the valley near the airport, is one of the most populous areas on Maui, and home to a long stretch of beach. Run on paths up to 3.5 miles, and also the runnable beach!
If you prefer to break away from traffic in the Wailea area, you can break off onto the Wailea Beach Path, a beautiful 1.5 mile boardwalk stretching along the sea in the premiere resort area of the island.
This is a 5.7 mile forested route with heavy leaf cover and a springy pine needle coated path. It's a hilly trail run recommended by the Valley Isle Road Runners.
This Wailea/Makena route is a paved route through the golf courses in Wailea with oceanfront views and a lava field in Makena.
Waihao Spring is another heavily forested, pine-needly trail, though significantly easier than the Makawao loop. One trip around is a flat and steady 2.8 miles, without much uphill gain.
This 9 mile singletrack loop boasts a high elevation climb winding up to ocean vistas.
A one-of-a-kind run on a barren volcano, with incredible ocean views. Very challenging 10-mile run to the 10,000-foot summit is 3,000 foot gain. Or, have a partner drop you part way or go up for sunrise and run down.

For a big city, Memphis has its fair share of green spaces, but when it comes to unlimited running it doesn’t get any better than the Shelby Farms Greenline, which stretches over 10.5 miles from Midtown Memphis to the Cordova neighborhood.
On the south end of Shelby Farms Park, the Wolf River Greenway meets up with the Germantown Greenway to form a network of paved bike paths perfect for a long or short run. As an out and back, the two greenways make up an approximately 9 mile route.
Locals know that Cooper Young is one of the hippest neighborhoods in Memphis — a hub of arts and culture with a rich history and a tight knit community. It’s a wonderful place to stay if you’re visiting Memphis, and an especially great location for an urban run.
One of the gems of running in Memphis, with 342 acres of grassy public lands complete with trails and endless sights. It even has a designated running loop. It's 4 miles west of downown.
Audubon Park, just north of the University of Memphis’ Park Avenue Campus, is a long green space bordering a beautiful golf course. The surrounding neighborhood includes the Memphis Botanical Gardens and the Dixon Gallery and Gardens, both worth a detour.

Birmingham’s canals form quick and efficient running routes with miles of paved “towpaths” paralleling the water. The crown jewel of these is a 5 mile route starting at the “Mailbox.”
Edgbaston Reservoir is a 70 acre nature area encircled by a 1.75 mile paved sidewalk. If you want to extend the route, you can head through Summerfield Park in the north and along the canal for a tour of the opulent Jewellry Quarter.
This 5 mile route winds through the University of Birmingham campus and up the path of the Worcester and Birmingham Canal. From there, you can branch off towards Chad Brook and connect with the paths of Birmingham’s Botanical Gardens.
Cannon Hill Park is one of the more popular public running areas in the city, with a few miles of tarmac path running alongside the River Rea and the Boating Lake at the park’s center.
6 miles north of Birmingham center, Sutton Park is one of the largest urban nature parks in Europe, and is composed of miles upon miles of trails winding through woodland, marsh, and along the banks of no less than seven lakes.
The Lickey Hills trails form an undulating course perfect for a beginning trail runner. The best bet is to start from the Visitor’s center and head up Beacon Hill, but there are unlimited options.
Another gem of the Parkrun craze, this is a short loop around the banks of the River Tame. This park is mostly wide, grassy swaths, but the paved footpaths running through the center of the park and out along the river make a great base for an easy loop.

The Tram Road Challenge is a taxing 6k from Chino Canyon up to the 8,500 foot elevation of Mt. San Jacinto State Park. The run is up the access road paralleling the tram. Nearly 2,000 foot elevation gain, grades averaging 7-8%.
This 3.5 mile out and back on the South Lykken Trail, which rises up from South Palm Canyon Drive in lower Palm Springs, has great views of the Coachella Valley. Note: Dogs not permitted!

The Monterey Bay Coastal Recreation Trail, which spans the coast of Monterey between Pacific Grove and Castroville, is a beautiful 18 mile former railway, which is now a two lane path leading to some of the most notable tourist attractions in the area.

Without a doubt, the highlight of all running in Canberra is this route around Lake Burley Griffin, which hugs the coast through Commonwealth Park and traverses over the water via two bridges.
If too much pavement pounding is jostling your joints, take your run to the Stromlo Forest Park in western Canberra, where the maintenance team has turfed a specialized 2.5k running loop with cushy Santa Ana Couch grass.
Mount Ainslie is an 843 meter hill which serves as the focal point for the Canberra Nature Park in the northeastern corner of the city. While it’s possible to run the drive up to the lookout for a hill training run, a popular 12k route is the loop around the base of the hill.
For an introduction to the Australian bush without the risk, the National Arboretum Canberra is a great spot to learn about flora on foot. It’s not a spot for a lengthy run, but there are two decent 2k circuits that make for a nice quick tour of the trees.
The Runners Club at the Canberra YMCA is particularly fond of the park’s Canberra Centenary Trail, which can form the base of either a 5k or 12k route.

Big Sur is one of the most spectacular gems of the California Coast, and the views are at their best from the Panorama Trail in Andrew Molera State Park, 22 miles south of Carmel.
A series of three parks forms a riverside greenway, including Parque de los Reyes, Parque Forestal, and Parque Balmaceda. Also incorporates several Santiago museums and monuments. A full loop is 11.4 km (7.1 miles).
The high-end Vitacura neighborhood in the northwest part of the city has some good streets for running, and the Parque Avenida Americo Vespucio corridor park, with with a nice multi-use path running it’s length. We gave 7 km and 10 km loops.
If you’re visiting Chile in anticipation of some mountainous adventure, the Parque Bicentennial, better known as Cerro San Cristobal (Saint Christopher Hill) is an awesome training run to gain some elevation.
Located in the southern part of the city, Parque O’Higgins is a popular spot for picnics and outdoor recreation, including running. Although the park is not very large, you can fit a 4 kilometer circuit in by looping around the perimeter of the park.
If you favor running on sand, the uninterrupted stretch of beach between Del Monte Beach and Moss Landing is a great route for a roughly 2.5 mile out and back on nothing but gently graded pristine white sands.

1,000 acre state park is heart of Big Sur.Wonderful trail running, with excellent variety, from coastal forest to oceanside views. Currently, the best open trail is Buzzard’s Roost Trail, a moderate three miles loop from the Cabrillo Highway.
Canberra is not only a running-friendly city, it caters to bike enthusiasts as well. Luckily, cyclists don’t mind sharing the miles upon miles of paved paths in Canberra’s southern suburbs.
For a panoramic view of the city of Canberra, it doesn’t get any better than Mount Taylor, an easy climb conveniently located just outside the suburbs of Torrens (Woden) and Kambah (Tuggeranong).
Canberra hosts a free weekly 5k at Lake Tuggeranong. The entire lake has a loop around it that makes a nice longer run, but an out and back on the bike path in southern section of the lake is the designated 5000 meter course.
There are plenty of running trails between the Black Mountain Reserve and neighboring Aranda Bushland Nature Reserve, but the nicest way up is via the Australian National Botanic Gardens (sometimes known as the “Flower to Tower” route).

Turia Gardens, which curls around the dry river in the center of the city, is Valencia’s pride and joy when it comes to running routes. It includes over 9 kilometers of paths and an official 5k circuit specialized for running. Adjacent Cabecera Park adds 2km more.
A beautiful run Valencia’s waterfront and seaport. Easiest point of access is Marina Real Juan Carlos I. For a longer run, you can continue on to the north shore beaches beyond. Good spot for a 2 mile beach run.
El Saler is noted as one of the best beaches in Valencia, with fine white sand (great for running!) and tucked into a wetland natural area with miles of dune-laced trails.
Nicely surfaced multi-use path running through several parks along Av. de Blasco Ibáñez. Close to the Universities. It's 2.8 km one way. Can be combined at west end of Av. de Blasco Ibáñez with Turia Gardens Run and Capcalera Park.
The “North Round” of Valencia is the motorway stretching between Benimàmet and the Fallera City, which is bordered by a bike path for about 4k — a nice surface for an 8k out and back.
The town center of Great Barrington is classic New England. Enjoy a nearly 5 mile loop through downtown, along the River Walk, and some lovely roads up to Bard College and around Lake Mansfield.
Enjoy a series of lovely paths on the grounds of this lovely museum, which wind through apple orchards down to the Housatonic River. Outdoors there are impressive gardens and larger than life sculptures. Nearby roads are good for running.
This is a gentler trail running opportunity, in the heart of Lenox. Kennedy Park maintains smooth, runnable trails There is a nice, ~4.5 mile loop starting at the Arcadian Shop off Route 20. Options to add more on the trails -- bring a map!
Not only does this rural route carry over a railroad bridge, it covers a stretch of Sleepy Hollow Road. Toss in some dirt back roads and a nice hilly vista and it doesn’t get more Berkshires than that!
This hilltop winery seems to offer everything: from apple picking to hayrides, to live music, to full moon hikes. Little do most know that the farm’s extensive network of cross country skiing trails are also open to runners and mountain bikers.
Great option for a longer, flat, off-road run in the Berkshires. This paved Rail Trail spans 13.6 miles between Adams and Lanesborough. Views of the Hoosac Mountains, Hoosic River, Cheshire Reservoir, and the wetlands which wind between them.
Mt. Greylock is known for it's challenging hiking, but there are some great running option here too! Choose a section of the 17-mile Greylock Scenic Byway, which features flatter sections or a steep climb to the summit. Sperry Rd. is an easier, flatter route.
A hilly but quiet and low traffic route through Lanesborough, starting where Greylock Rd. and North Main St. splits is mostly dirt, so the track is easy on the joints and super-scenic.

Following the Greenway along the Santa Fe River, the path is currently 5.6 paved but noncontiguous miles. Eventually, it will include 15 miles of paved continuous greenway comprised of parks and trails along the Santa Fe River.
Good option for a longer off-road run in Santa Fe. Paved Rails-to-Trails path heads south for 5.1 miles from downtown to the Rabbit Rd. trailhead, continuing as a more rugged trail south for another 11.5 miles. Optional 3.5 mile west spur.
A good taste of Santa Fe’s trails — located in the foothills just a couple of miles from downtown. The system includes 24 miles of trails where runners of all skill sets can piece together a loop for their ability level on well marked, easy to follow single tracks.

A scenic 4 mile loop around Pueblo Canyon in Las Alamos. The highlight is the bridge across the canyon. Los Alamos is 30 miles northwest of Santa Fe and is a popular visitor destination. Several other scenic trails in the area for hiking/trail running there as well.
At this massive lake, which is just west of Baxter State Park and the 100 Mile Wilderness, moose outnumber people 3:1 — so it's one of your best bets for viewing wildlife while you run.
Rangeley, Maine is a hub of outdoor adventure — from skiing at Saddleback Mountain to watersports on its chain of pristine pine-bordered lakes. But with miles of scenic trails and byways, it’s also a great spot to take in some color on a satisfying run.
A bit off the beaten path as far as Maine tourism goes, but the scenery in and around the dramatic Tumbledown Range is not to be missed when fall comes around. Enjoy the 16-mile bike path around Webb Lake, or the trails of Mt. Blue State Park.

Known as “The Prettiest Village in Maine,” Wiscasset is a choice town for a residential/commercial run with an old timey seaport feel. We've mapped out a gorgeous 5-mile run highlighting Wiscasset and over the bridge to Fort Edgecomb State Park.
Just west of Portland, a great destination to take in some classic Maine scenery. Best bets for running are roads in Sebago Lake State Park, at the northern part of the lake, and the first 5 miles of the Sebago to the Sea Trail, at the southern part of the lake.
If Melbourne does one thing right, it’s waterfront paths. The crown jewel of these is the Capital City Trail, which tracks the Yarra River through the central part of the city. This mostly paved path is a great flat loop to hop onto for a run of any length.
Running 'The Tan' track in Melbourne is a thing. The popular gravel running path looping around Melbourne’s Royal Botanic Gardens and Kings Domain boasts its own website for recorded times! Good additional options nearby.
Add this lake to your Melbourne options for waterside routes! Fortunately for runners, the architects of Albert Park had the foresight to build a nearly 7.5 km track along the water’s edge, for a lovely lake tour.
It’s hard to resist the Bay Trail, or the “Solar System Trail” which keeps you going from the Sun to Pluto with the astrophysics themed artwork scaled down to the length of this seaside path.

Another river in Melbourne that's great for running. The Maribyrnong River, which pours into the Yarra from the northwest corner of the city, is bordered by a lovely paved shared use path which is separated from the water by nothing but a stand of palm trees.
While Carlton and Fitzroy often take the credit for being the "hippest" neighborhoods in Melbourne, Williamstown to the west is another fun choice for a day of running, shopping, and eating. We've designed a 'tour of Williamstown', and a longer coastal route.

Glasgow's oldest park and a popular running spot. Run along the Clyde River and in the Green, past the People's Palace and Winter Garden. Several other architectural highlights and landmarks, and lovely running paths.
The West End of Glasgow is most noteworthy where the Clyde intersects with the Kelvin, making for a stretch of beautiful waterfront park — especially the Riverside Museum on the Broomielaw, where you can check out the historic tall ships.
This is the route to experience Glasgow’s architectural crown jewels, including the Glasgow Cathedral, George Square, and City Chambers.
These interconnected parks are just south of Glasgow and easily accessible by transport. Enjoy the skyline view from Queen’s Park and the gardens at Pollok Park. Our route outlines both parks but there are great DIY options.
For a waterfront run away from the crowds, track the path along the canal from Spiers Wharf up to Ruchill Park, which locals say is the best panoramic view of the city you’ll find. North of Ruchill Park, there are many more km of paths along the canal.
Extensive trail network in this park only 20 minutes north of the city by train. Good options for trail running and hills, passing by remains of castles, World War anti-aircraft trenches, and other sites.

Just south of Assiniboine Park, this regal stand of oak and aspen is one of the largest urban nature parks in Canada, and a perfect spot to escape the city crowds and spend some quiet time in the great outdoors. Paved, boardwalk, and woodchip terrain.
This tour of the University of Manitoba and King’s Park is a nice jaunt along the Red River for anyone in the southern sector of Winnipeg. Depart on campus or the Pembina location of the Running Room store
Birds Hill is a nice diversion from downtown Winnipeg at the sacrifice of less than half an hour’s driving time. This park has it all: run through the shade of a rare cedar bog, trek through the sand around Kingfisher Lake, or power up Griffith’s Hill for some scenic views.

A wonderful run from downtown to one of Block Island's most popular spots, with great views of the water. A good add-on is to take the steep stairs down to the beach, and run/walk for a bit along the beach.
Iconic Block Island views, including the Great Salt Pond, Sachem Pond, and Grove Point, and a seaside trail to the North Lighthouse. 9.4 miles out and back from downtown. Good shorter option is section from the Wildlife Refuge to the Lighthouse.
This stretch of sand on the eastern shore of Block Island is always flat and firm at low tide, making it an ideal beach run that can cover up to four miles.
A run in the the trail network of the Rodman’s Hollow shrublands, then along a lovely dirt road leading to Black Rock Point. Running on Black Rock Beach is also great, especially at low tide.
Clay Head is widely regarded as one of the most scenic locations on the East Coast, and it's "maze" is one of the most beautiful places you will ever get lost. Then main trail is 2.3 miles, but add some in the maze.

This route follows the course of the popular 15K road race, providing endless views of farmland and a look at the lesser traveled inland of the island. Rolling meadows, stone walls, sparkling ponds, towering cliffs. The loop is done twice for the race.
The pristine walking and cycling path along Tamaki Drive from Judges Bay to St. Heliers delivers striking views of the city skyline from across the bay as well as sections of sweeping beach. It's 8.1 km one-way, with frequent buses between the two points.
This quick, centrally located run is a favorite of local business people who want to squeeze in a lunchtime jog. It’s also favored by night runners for the lights on the brilliant hot pink Nelson Street Cycleway, and the Viaduct is a great place to watch the ships come and go.
We love this popular loop through Auckland Domain — which is the equivalent of Auckland’s Central Park. It traverses all of the park’s best features, including a look at The Auckland War Memorial Museum, a quaint pond, and a run down Lover’s Lane.
The wooden walkway and bridge around Orakei Basin makes for a fun, quick run with great water views the whole way. Can be combined with Tamaki Drive or Auckland Domain.
Auckland’s iconic Sky Tower has arguably the best views in the city, but if you prefer surveying the landscape in fresh air, a run up the summit of Mt. Eden is just the ticket.
These lovely shared use paths along the peninsula will take you from Pakuranga to the point of Buckland's Beach. Water views much of the way. The whole path is 13.6 km one-way. A bus runs between the two points, making a long one-way run possible.
Cornwall Park is home to Auckland’s famous One Tree Hill, and in fact, a number of other hills which make this seemingly easy park run a pleasantly surprising challenge complete with rolling farmland.
If sand running is your jam, don’t miss Takapuna Beach, a lovely stretch of flat sand with unbeatable views of Rangitoto Island and the Hauraki Gulf.
The trail to Kitekite Falls isn’t a long run, so we’ve paired it with a road run out to the Tasman Lookout, making for a picturesque tour of Piha (a village about an hour outside of Auckland).
Need to run away from city life? The Okura Bush Walkway, in Auckland’s East Coast bay, is a tough hilly track through the bush perfect for a longer adventure.

Former military site is now a park, with 25+ km of trials around woods, meadows, wetlands, and small lakes. There's also a 10 km paved path along Køge Bay. Amager Fælled is also home to a weekly Parkrun.

A paved multi-use trail in Minneapolis that connects the Mississippi River Trails in the east to the Chain of Lakes paths in the west. It’s ~6 miles one-way through the heart of downtown, roughly paralleling Lake Street. Bonus: lit at night and cleared of snow!
This lovely, 3-mile paved route follows the Ten Mile River from the Kimberly Ann Rock Athletic Fields north through Slater Memorial Park and then Ten Mile River Park in Darlington. Some sections wooded, other sections with attractive water views.

UNAM is the largest university in Latin America, and boasts one of the largest campuses in the world. This public campus, and the surrounding “University City,” make for a great run. We've mapped a 12 km loop, but good options to create your own.

The Reach 11 Sport Complex, on the north side of Phoenix, is quickly gaining traction as a favorite local running spot. West side trail is up to 9 miles out and back, and the east side Barrier Free Nature Trail is up to a 7.5 mile loop.
Some of our favorite residential areas of Houston for running include the 6th Ward Historic District, Montrose, River Oaks, Bellaire, and Memorial Villages. Near Rice University, Boulevard Oaks and West University Place are also great for running.
This big park to the north of Madrid University has miles of sprawling dirt paths that offer one of the best workouts in the city with great hill work and stationary exercise equipment. A loop is ~ 5 km. Can combine with University paths, Parque del Oeste.

Fortuna is a district in southwest Madrid. The highlight of running here a series of groomed gravel paths lining the banks of the narrow Arroyo de la Canaleja (canal). A loop of up to 15 km is possible!
A unique run in a scenic park on paths passing the remains of two remarkable ancient aqueducts. Located in Appio Claudio in the far southeast reaches of Rome (Mun. VII).
Spanning along the Aniene River, a tributary of the Tiber, this verdant park includes a variety of paved and dirt paths for running.
Known for its idyllic Terranean seaside, Anzio is a popular day-trip destination from Rome, and is accessible via a roughly 1 hour car or train ride. There's a wide sidewalk/path along the main road, with nice views of the sea, for 6 km.
The massive Parco Naturale Regionale di Bracciano Martignano, surrounding the Lago di Bracciano northwest of Rome, has a good variety of running opportunities.
The Little Blue Trace Trail follows the Little Blue River 15.5 miles. It's a dirt-surfaced path located in east Kansas City & Independence. The Prairie Creek Greenway is a looped multi-use trail not far from the KC airport just south of Platte City.

Bothamley Park, located in Porirua, is a nice green space for a run. There's a nice network of mainly wooded paths. It's nearly 4 km from end-to-end in this park. Also the site for Parkrun, a free group 5k held every Saturday morning.

Just across the Ashley River from Charleston, runners can explore the West Ashley Greenway. The multi-use trail roughly parallels US 17 through a combination of residential neighborhoods, schools, parks, and a marsh. 8.2 miles one-way.

Scenic, gravel multi-use trail that stretches for 212 miles from Cedar Falls, just outside of Seattle’s eastern suburbs, to the Idaho Border. Olallie State Park, mountain passes, farmlands of eastern Washington, and the nation’s longest tunnel open to nonmotorized traffic!
Great option for a longer off-road option. This paved multi-use trail follows the outline of the Little Miami River for up to 75 miles, north to Springfield. Lovely small towns and fields of corn and soybeans.
